Jim Cramer says he will liquidate his entire Bitcoin holdings, expressing concerns that quantum computing could threaten Bitcoin’s security within three years.

Former hedge fund manager and CNBC host Jim Cramer said he plans to sell all his Bitcoin holdings over concerns that quantum computing could threaten BTC’s security. His comments stemmed from an interview with IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna, who warned investors to watch for quantum computing’s challenge to modern cryptography in the next 3 to 4 years. Cramer believes quantum computing could pose a threat to the Bitcoin network around the same timeframe. However, no independent confirmation has been made of how much BTC Cramer holds, or whether he has already completed the sale. Following his remarks, Bitcoin continued trading normally near $63,764, with some market participants once again viewing his comments as a "reverse Cramer" signal. Bitcoin uses the ECDSA signature scheme based on the secp256k1 curve; in theory, a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could use Shor’s algorithm to derive private keys from public keys. The risk is concentrated primarily on addresses with exposed public keys, including reused addresses, early wallet formats, and the short time window after a transaction is broadcast before confirmation. Researchers estimate that roughly 6 million to 7 million BTC, or about 30% of the total supply, fall into this category. Google Quantum AI estimated in March this year that cracking the relevant cryptographic mechanisms could require fewer than 500,000 physical qubits, a roughly 20-fold reduction from prior projections. However, current quantum systems typically only have hundreds to thousands of physical qubits, with far fewer logical qubits that offer higher reliability. Most researchers expect that a quantum computer capable of breaking cryptographic codes will likely not emerge until the 2030s or even the 2040s, making Cramer’s 3-year timeline far earlier than most technical projections.

Trump-linked Bitcoin mining firm American Bitcoin’s CEO resigns, joins AI energy infrastructure company.

Trump-linked bitcoin mining firm American Bitcoin (ABTC) announced that its president and interim CFO Matt Prusak will step down on August 4 to join AI and energy infrastructure company Giga Energy as chief business officer and interim CFO. Prusak said that after "years of building his bitcoin business", he will move upstream to the energy infrastructure sector, focusing on power supply issues that currently constrain the development of both bitcoin mining and AI computing. American Bitcoin, co-founded with Eric Trump and backed by Hut 8, is a Nasdaq-listed bitcoin mining firm. Prusak previously led the company's bitcoin accumulation strategy, which included expanding computing power and increasing BTC holdings per share. Headquartered in Houston, Giga Energy primarily develops power equipment and AI data center infrastructure. The company said it has delivered over 6.5GW of power infrastructure to date and is developing more than 500MW of AI data center capacity. Industry insiders believe Prusak's move reflects that the bitcoin mining sector is accelerating its shift toward AI infrastructure. As competition in the mining business intensifies and profit margins come under pressure, an increasing number of mining firms are leveraging their power resources, land reserves and data center capabilities to enter the AI computing infrastructure market. As large tech firms compete for power and data center capacity, energy supply has become a core bottleneck for AI computing expansion, and companies with power resource integration capabilities are gaining more attention.

Researchers from the People's Public Security University of China have developed an AI algorithm to track Bitcoin money laundering, with an overall accuracy rate of approximately 90%.

Researchers from the Chinese People's Public Security University have developed an AI framework that detects illegal cryptocurrency transactions with an overall accuracy of nearly 90%. The study was published in the Chinese peer-reviewed journal *Intelligence Magazine*. Corresponding author Dr. Sun Jingchao, who specializes in criminal investigation and cybersecurity, noted that the research "provides an accurate, scalable, and interpretable solution for detecting illegal cryptocurrency transactions" and offers an innovative technical path for regulators to crack down on illegal crypto activities and economic crimes. The AI framework leverages memory modules and large language models, specifically targeting the anonymity and cross-border traits of cryptocurrencies to track illegal transactions such as money laundering. The research comes as China continues to intensify its efforts against crypto-related financial crimes. In March this year, the Supreme People's Procuratorate disclosed that procuratorial organs prosecuted 3,259 people for money laundering involving virtual currencies and underground banks in 2025. As cryptocurrency trading volumes surge, its anonymous and cross-border nature creates channels for illegal fund flows; this police-developed AI detection tool marks an upgrade in regulatory technical means from passive tracking to active intelligent identification.
