OpenAI discovered AI can secretly communicate via CPUs; Vercel’s CEO replicated the experiment, showing AI can still communicate even when CPU cores are isolated.

Beating AI News Flash, OpenAI disclosed last week that two AI agents, which were originally unable to communicate via network or shared files, secretly exchanged information by exploiting the read speed difference of CPU cache. Guillermo Rauch, founder and CEO of Vercel, subsequently created a demo program called "cpu-chat" to replicate a similar communication method on his own computer. He used Firecracker technology to run at least two isolated, network-disabled virtual machines on the same machine. Under normal circumstances, these virtual machines cannot directly exchange information, but they still share the same hardware resources. Rauch tested three methods: one side intentionally occupied the CPU, altered cache state, or consumed memory bandwidth, while the other side monitored changes in its own operating speed and interpreted the speed difference as a message. Even after disabling hyper-threading, disabling memory page merging, and assigning different virtual machines to separate CPU cores, this communication method still worked. Rauch noted that the experiment is not only applicable to x86 processors, but also runs on Apple M5 chips. However, this experiment is a manually designed communication test, not a case where two AI agents secretly connect on their own initiative. Rauch also pointed out that real cloud environments have more interference factors, making this type of communication harder to achieve, and anomalies can be detected by monitoring hardware operating status.

ACI Worldwide partners with Circle to integrate USDC settlement into Latin America’s existing payment infrastructure.

According to an official announcement, payment technology firm ACI Worldwide (ACIW) and USDC issuer Circle (CRCL) have announced a partnership. The two will leverage ACI’s cloud-native intelligent payment orchestration platform ACI Connetic and Circle’s USDC infrastructure to help financial institutions integrate stablecoin settlements into their existing payment operations, bridging traditional payment systems with digital asset infrastructure. The project will initially focus on Colombia, where ACI provides core infrastructure for the country’s interconnected instant payment system Bre-B. The pair plans to explore how stablecoins like USDC can work in tandem with the existing real-time interbank payment system to build a more interconnected multi-track payment network. The partnership aims to help financial institutions evaluate stablecoin settlement models within their familiar operating environments, enabling integration with traditional payment channels, treasury management, governance frameworks, and settlement workflows.

Wintermute: Bitcoin is expected to resume its uptrend only after reclaiming the $82,000 to $82,500 level.

Wintermute stated in a report that Bitcoin fell 2.43% last week, marking its third consecutive weekly decline, breaking below the $82,500 support level and retesting the $80,000 threshold. On the macro front, rising energy prices and inflation concerns have replaced AI financing issues as the main market risks. Bitcoin’s recent performance is highly correlated with the Nasdaq and AI-related stocks, while ETF fund flows have also started to show two-way volatility. The Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and policy stance will be a key catalyst for Bitcoin’s short-term movement. If Bitcoin fails to hold the $80,000 level, the next critical support is $76,000; a valid break below this level could push prices further down to the $70,000 range. In the short term, Bitcoin needs to reclaim the $82,000 to $82,500 range to resume its uptrend. If the Fed signals a hawkish tilt, markets may reassess expectations for a December rate hike, driving up yields and intensifying downward pressure on Bitcoin; if the policy statement leaves room for the December decision, it could create conditions for Bitcoin’s rebound. Currently, the market lacks directional confidence and will remain cautious ahead of the Fed’s decision, the U.S. third-quarter GDP data, and September personal consumption expenditures (PCE) figures. If the Fed signals a dovish tilt but subsequent PCE inflation comes in higher than expected, markets may sell off tech stocks due to renewed inflationary pressure, dragging down Bitcoin. The firm emphasized that it is not definitively bearish at present, but remains cautious until Bitcoin reclaims the $82,500 level.
