Intel’s shares plunged 45% in October, weighed down by dual pressures of a weak PC business and a confidence crisis among its foundry clients.

Intel's stock has suffered a historic plunge, falling 45% in October to mark its worst monthly performance in company history. On the last trading day of October, the stock plummeted 29% in a single session — its largest one-day drop since the 1970s — and fell another 8% on the first trading day of November. The slump was primarily driven by a profit warning. Intel projects its revenue for the current quarter will be $1 billion to $2 billion lower than analysts' estimates, citing weak PC market demand and high costs for memory and other components. The PC business still contributes around half of the company's total revenue. Meanwhile, while Intel's data center business remains growing, insufficient production capacity has forced the firm to shift some capacity at its Oregon factories from the advanced 18A process to the Intel 3 process to boost server CPU supply. This adjustment has sparked external concerns over its advanced process capacity and foundry delivery capabilities. Harvard Business School professor David Yoffie warned that if Intel fails to provide sufficient capacity beyond its own needs, it will struggle to become a trusted foundry supplier. Intel CEO Chen Liwu said the company plans to announce several foundry clients over the next two quarters, with progress in customer expansion being key to its foundry business transformation. D.A. Davidson cut Intel's rating from Buy to Neutral, noting that while the PC sector faces industry-wide pressure, the severity of its business weakness has made current valuations unsustainable. Raymond James Chief Market Strategist Matt Orton argued that the current period is not a "liquidation moment" for the AI sector, with fundamentals remaining strong, though investors need to re-examine the still-crowded positions in the space.

OpenAI is also revamping Git: Codex is contributing to the backend overhaul, with the updated system set to launch in 10 weeks and deliver code pushes nearly five times faster.

Dongcha Beating AI News Flash: As AI coding accelerates, Git backends are hitting capacity limits. Following Cursor and Anthropic, OpenAI has unveiled its self-developed Git backend Pando, which now manages the company’s entire main code repository. Over the past year, Codex has enabled engineers to deploy numerous AI agents to write code simultaneously, leading to a surge in code branches, pushes, merges, and pull requests. OpenAI’s legacy system experienced frequent lags and merge failures, with reliability dropping below 90% at one point. Subsequently, one engineer led the core architecture design, with multiple Codex Agent teams contributing to implementation, and Pando was launched into production in just 10 weeks. Pando enables parallel processing of code pushes across different branches, eliminating the need for queuing. When pulling code, it no longer generates individual data packets for each client; instead, it reuses existing Git data packets and distributes them directly via caching. After the upgrade, the median latency for code pushes was reduced by nearly 80%, with nearly 1 PB of data distributed daily and a cache hit rate exceeding 99%. However, the system no longer guarantees that different branches reflect the same state at a given time. The three companies are tackling similar scaling challenges but have taken vastly different approaches: Cursor’s Origin remains Git-based, primarily aiming to replace GitHub’s code hosting service; Anthropic’s Scion abandons Git entirely, moving commits, merges, and history queries to the server side. OpenAI opted to retain the Git client and protocol, rebuilding only the backend, so engineers and agents can largely keep their existing development workflows unchanged.

Analysis: Binance's fines and hacker losses over the past five years have reached $10.7 billion, equivalent to 56% of its pre-tax profits.

K33 Research Head of Research Vetle Lunde estimates that Binance’s pre-tax profit from 2021 to 2025 is roughly $19.2 billion, while its known fines and hack-related losses total about $10.7 billion—equivalent to 56% of its pre-tax profit over the same period. Of this total, Binance’s known fines amount to around $4.34 billion, including the $4.32 billion paid in a 2023 U.S. criminal settlement and roughly $20 million in penalties from regulators in other countries. For hack incidents, Binance lost around 7,000 BTC (valued at approximately $41 million) in 2019; the October 2026 hack caused roughly $6.34 billion in losses, bringing total hack-related losses to around $6.38 billion. However, around $3 billion from the latest hack has been frozen on-chain, and Binance is still expected to recover some of these funds. The exchange also used 7,500 BTC from its SAFU (Secure Asset Fund for Users) to cover roughly 9% of the losses. Since Binance has never published consolidated group financial statements, the above profit and loss figures are estimates. The report also notes that Binance’s total tracked assets have dropped by more than 11% since the October 29 hack, to around $128.3 billion. As competitors Coinbase, Kraken, and OKX continue to expand, fines, hack incidents, and shrinking asset scale may squeeze Binance’s investment capital and put pressure on its expansion plans.
