Karpathy slammed YouTube's poor recommendation algorithm, having Claude build HackerTube in just two hours.

Beating AI Flash News: OpenAI co-founder and current Anthropic pre-training team member Andrej Karpathy grew frustrated with YouTube’s one-size-fits-all recommendations and exaggerated thumbnails, so he had Claude build a video recommendation site called HackerTube, a process that took only around two hours. HackerTube features 6,454 YouTube videos spanning 150 topics, all sourced from Hacker News tech community’s 20 years of recommendation records, not YouTube’s own algorithm. The site requires no login, is accessible immediately, and saves individual browsing status locally. Instead of creators’ exaggerated thumbnails, videos use a uniform frame captured from the middle of the clip. To source these videos, Claude processed roughly 43 million historical Hacker News comments. It first narrowed the scope via link matching, regular expressions, and other methods, then used Sonnet to identify video-recommending comments and filter out spam, finally curating the videos from around 40,000 valid comments. The entire project was built with Claude Code: Opus 5.5 handled data processing workflows, website development, and deployment, while Sonnet managed large-scale comment classification. Karpathy noted he did not write code or operate the terminal manually; he only manually applied for a YouTube API key, purchased the domain, launched the server, and configured DNS. The remaining work, including server hardening and performance optimization, was delegated to Claude. Karpathy disclosed the project consumed a total of 504 million input tokens (about 90% cached) and 7.6 million output tokens. Over 90% of the token usage went to Sonnet’s comment classification, while website development and deployment consumed roughly 1 million Opus 5.5 tokens. HackerTube is now live, and its curated recommendation data is available for download. Others can feed this data to their own AI agents to create video sites tailored to personal interests.

Analysis: BTC's "Seller Exhaustion Index" hits the cycle's second-lowest level, suggesting the bear market bottom may have been confirmed.

Market analyst Murphy says Bitcoin's Seller Exhaustion Index may trigger its second signal point. On August 11 this year, the BTC Seller Exhaustion Index provided the last accurate bottom-buying signal before the market rally began. The index measures both low volatility and high losses, with a signal triggered when both conditions are met simultaneously. Historically, the index only falls into the "Extreme Exhaustion Zone" (red area) during cycle bottom periods, and this zone rarely reappears once the bottom structure is completed. This means even if prices drop lower afterward, the index will not hit a lower level (marked as 1 and 2). Therefore, during a single cycle, if traders miss the absolute low (marked 1), they should seize the secondary low (marked 2) as much as possible. As previously noted, the secondary low (2) has higher certainty than the absolute low (1), though the risk is that its price may also be higher than that of the absolute low. The secondary low (2) has recently emerged: when BTC prices pulled back to $77,000 a few days ago, the Seller Exhaustion Index formed the secondary low for this cycle, only higher than the level recorded in August this year. The analyst reminds that the analysis is for reference only and does not constitute direct investment advice.

Do Top Silicon Valley VCs Favor Their Own? Survey of 8,525 Startups: Fund Background Triples Success Odds, Chinese Educational Background Shows Negative Correlation

Beating AI Express News (Dongcha) — For startups in Silicon Valley, what credentials most easily secure top venture capital funding? While graduating from a top university and having big tech company experience help, the biggest advantage surprisingly goes to those who previously worked at a top VC firm. Menlo Ventures partner Deedy Das analyzed 8,525 U.S. startups founded between 2019 and 2026 using Harmonic data. He studied 63 founder background traits to compare who is more likely to land lead investments from top VCs in seed or Series A rounds. The results show founders with top VC experience have a roughly 2.83x higher chance of securing a lead investment than peers with similar other conditions, ranking first. Founders with experience at cutting-edge AI labs and cybersecurity backgrounds have odds of 2.16x and 2.03x respectively. By comparison, top university backgrounds give a 1.41x odds, and former Google employees have 1.29x. The term "former VC employees" includes not just investors, but also in-house entrepreneurs, researchers, and even interns. Many were incubating startup projects within the fund, so they know the investment process and can directly access investors. This pre-built network and information advantage may be key to their easier funding access. The study also found several negative correlation factors: founders with an MBA have a lead investment odds ratio of 0.65; those educated in China have 0.59; and teams where the oldest founder is over 50 have 0.57.
