AI begins challenging real-world engineering design: GPT-6 Astra posts a 37% pass rate, while five other models failed to earn a single pass.

Beating AI News Brief: AI startup Xplore has launched RWE-Bench, a benchmark to test large language models (LLMs)’ ability to solve real-world engineering problems. 11 models were evaluated on 20 tasks spanning mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering. GPT-6 Astra ranked first with a 37% single-attempt average pass rate, followed by Claude Opus 5.5 at 29% and GPT-6.1 Sol at 25%. Five models, including DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, GLM-5.3, and Grok 4.7, failed all tasks. The tasks covered engine crankshaft design, circuit board routing, and turbine blade thermal simulation: crankshaft design requires balancing size, weight, strength, and fatigue life; routing an 8-layer circuit board with nearly 300 installed components demands connecting 71 signal lines while controlling timing errors and impedance; turbine blade thermal simulation needs accurate calculation of heat transfer between high-temperature airflow and the blade. Each model used its respective Agent toolchain to operate professional engineering software directly. Each test ran for a maximum of 24 hours, with 5 independent attempts per task. Submitted designs were automatically validated via engineering software and physical solvers; any unmet hard requirement resulted in a failure. Out of 1,100 total tests, 4 tasks remained unsolved. However, after allowing 5 attempts per task, Claude Opus 5.5’s task pass rate rose to 70%, overtaking GPT-6 Astra’s 60%. Xplore aims to turn such engineering tasks into reinforcement learning training environments, enabling AI to improve engineering capabilities through repeated design, simulation, and error correction.

Japanese internet giant targeted in a cyberattack, hackers demand ransom in Bitcoin, company leaders refuse to pay the ransom.

According to Nada News, the cloud desktop service of Japanese internet giant GMO Group suffered an unauthorized access, affecting up to 26,739 servers. The hackers’ ransom note demanded payment in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), claiming GMO’s crypto exchange could immediately secure funds, and threatened to carry out abnormal transactions on victim accounts and publicly leak user data. The initial ransom demand was $50 million, later reduced to $1 million. GMO Group representative Masakazu Kumagai explicitly stated the company refused to compromise and paid no ransom, while its crypto exchange GMO Coin confirmed no abnormal operations on customer accounts were detected. Though the hackers subsequently released some data and threatened daily updates, the domain name of the website hosting the leaked information was shut down on the morning of October 28.

Google is conducting internal testing of an MPC encrypted custody security system, with multiple financial institutions and its parent company Alphabet leveraging this technology to protect digital assets.

Google will launch its Google Multi-Party Compute (MPC) security service at the inaugural digital assets workshop in New York on Wednesday, designed to help banks and other financial institutions custody and transfer cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets. The product is currently in private preview, with multiple financial institutions testing it; parent company Alphabet has used the service to secure its own digital assets on Ethereum and Solana, and a commercial launch is scheduled for early 2027, with pricing details not yet disclosed. The system splits private keys into multiple shards stored across separate systems, requires checks against the institution’s preset rules before transaction signing, and supports ECDSA and Ed25519 algorithms.

DTCC's tokenization service goes live, with its first batch supporting 34 securities.

According to DTCC's official website, the U.S. Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) announced its Tokenization Service has launched, with 34 securities available for tokenization in the initial batch. The tokens are backed 1:1 by securities held in DTC custody, granting holders the same legal rights and economic interests as the underlying assets. Traditional markets and on-chain systems share the same CUSIP code, enabling 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers between DTC-registered wallets. The service features built-in compliance controls and supports near real-time ownership tracking. Initial wallet and application partners include BitGo, Blockdaemon, Fireblocks, HashKey, Kaleido, Prometheum, Talos, Temple, and Tradeweb. DTC’s custodial assets total roughly $30 trillion.
