S&P Global has completed the acquisition of on-chain security firm OpenZeppelin, strengthening its on-chain financial security assessment capabilities.

S&P Global has announced the completion of its acquisition of on-chain security firm OpenZeppelin. The deal was first unveiled on September 17, 2026, with specific financial terms undisclosed. S&P Global stated that the acquisition will complement its digital asset risk assessment business, helping traditional financial institutions and on-chain finance companies evaluate smart contract and underlying technology risks. Founded in 2015, OpenZeppelin offers smart contract security audits, secure development services, and open-source contract libraries. Its security team has completed over 900 audit projects, uncovering more than 10,000 vulnerabilities before product launches; its open-source smart contract library OpenZeppelin Contracts has supported cumulative value transfers exceeding $38 trillion, covering multiple major stablecoins and tokenized funds. Post-acquisition, OpenZeppelin will operate as an independent business unit, with founder Demian Brener remaining in his role and reporting to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings. The firm confirmed that OpenZeppelin Contracts will continue to be open-source, free, and publicly maintained. S&P Global believes that as more financial assets and capital market activities shift on-chain, smart contract and underlying technology risk assessment will grow increasingly important. The acquisition aims to combine OpenZeppelin’s on-chain security technology with S&P Global’s institutional client network and global distribution capabilities to expand its digital asset risk assessment services.

Crypto and investment firms tied to the Trump family are pre-emptively bracing for investigations following the Democratic Party’s midterm elections.

According to Bloomberg, as the U.S. midterm elections approach and the likelihood of Democrats regaining at least one chamber of Congress rises, cryptocurrency, venture capital, and prediction market firms linked to former President Trump and his family are strengthening their legal and lobbying teams to prepare for potential congressional investigations. The firms in question include the Trump family co-founded crypto project World Liberty Financial, prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi, Changpeng Zhao, and venture capital firm 1789 Capital. Some of these companies have hired prominent lawyers and lobbyists, several of whom have ties to Democratic lawmakers. Democrats have previously demanded relevant information from World Liberty Financial and 1789 Capital, and asked the U.S. Department of Justice to clarify the circumstances surrounding Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao’s receipt of a Trump pardon. Democratic lawmakers have said that if they secure a congressional majority, they will use investigative and subpoena powers to examine potential conflicts of interest between the Trump family’s business interests and government policies, including whether the firms have obtained government contracts or other special treatment. The report points out that the ongoing investigations still face obstacles, including some evidence and documents being located overseas, and uncertainty over whether federal agencies such as the Department of Justice will take further action. The involved firms maintain that their business activities are in compliance with the law.
