Claude Code now supports MCP Tasks and Elicitations: The plugin can track long-running tasks and request input from users midway.

Beating AI News Flash: Anthropic announced that Claude Code now supports MCP Tasks and Elicitations, enabling external plugins to manage the execution status, progress, and results of long-running tasks via standard interfaces, and to prompt users for input when needed. For example, plugins can conduct in-depth research or export large reports. MCP servers can first return a task ID before proceeding with execution, allowing Claude to handle other work simultaneously without waiting. Once the task is completed, Claude Code retrieves the results and passes them to Claude. If the task runs on a remote server, it will continue executing even after Claude Code is exited, and users can resume tracking it upon returning to the original session. Elicitations allow plugins to pop up forms mid-execution to request user confirmation for refunds or additional missing information before resuming work. MCP Tasks became a protocol extension in July this year. This update brings MCP support to Claude Code; the feature is currently in public beta, requiring CLI version 2.1.304 or higher, and MCP servers also need to be adapted for compatibility.
