The 32,000-star DeepSeek plugin dsh-our-free-model has been hit with a mysterious "lawyer's letter" threat, which demands deletion of its repository within 7 days, though the letter has no sender details.

Beating AI Insight News: The DeepSeek open-source plugin project dsh-our-free-model, which has around 32,000 stars on GitHub, has suddenly received a 20,000-character "lawyer's letter". The poster claimed to be acting on behalf of the rights holders of WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy, accusing the project of reverse-engineering Tencent’s official client, bypassing interface verification, and using free credits to access AI models. The letter demanded the developer cease relevant activities within 3 days and delete the entire repository within 7 days, warning of potential litigation and regulatory reports if not complied with. However, the project had already removed Tencent-related channels at 10:29 AM that day. At 4:21 PM, another contributor submitted a pull request (PR) attempting to bypass Tencent’s client verification by modifying request content to restore model access. Approximately 39 minutes later, the "lawyer's letter" was posted. The contributor subsequently voluntarily withdrew the PR, and the code was not merged. What’s particularly odd is that the letter lacks key details: no law firm name, handling lawyer, authorized rights holder, contact information, or official seal. The account that posted the letter was only registered on October 16. The letter also claimed the developer had submitted code to restore access just 3 minutes after removing Tencent-related channels, but public GitHub records show the PR was actually submitted nearly 6 hours later. No official confirmation from Tencent regarding the letter has been released. Numerous developers in the community have questioned its authenticity, suspecting someone is using the lawyer’s letter to exert pressure.

PUBG maker Krafton open-sources a 30B model, with its bug-fixing capabilities approaching Meta’s, and it leverages technologies from Kimi and DeepSeek at the base layer.

Beating AI News Brief: South Korean gaming giant KRAFTON has released a preview of Raon-1 mini, a Mixture of Experts (MoE) language model trained from scratch. The model has a total parameter count of around 28.8 billion, with only 4.3 billion activated per inference. It is optimized for Korean dialogue, programming, and agent capabilities, supporting a 260,000-token context window. Though built from scratch, its underlying technology draws on innovations from Chinese tech firms: it uses a hybrid attention architecture, with 18 of its 25 layers employing a linear attention mechanism adapted from Kimi Delta Attention. The team also simplified DeepSeek’s mHC hyperconnection technology to cut training computational costs. KRAFTON’s test results show Raon-1 mini scored 70.8% in the SWE-Verified code repair test, outperforming Qwen3.6-35B-A3B’s 63.2% and nearly matching Meta Muse Glimmer’s 72.0%. However, it lagged in the Terminal-Bench Lite terminal operation test, scoring 47.0%—well below Qwen3.6-35B-A3B’s 63.3% and Muse Glimmer’s 70.7%. For instruction following test IFBench, it hit 84.2%, higher than both comparison models. The model weights are open-sourced under the Apache 2.0 license, with versions available in GGUF, MLX, and other formats, supporting local run on Mac. The NVFP4 quantized version can be deployed on a single RTX 5090. The team also offers the DFlash2 speculative decoding model, which in tests on a single NVIDIA B300 delivers up to 2.18x higher output throughput than standard decoding.

According to The Washington Post, the latest federal campaign finance disclosures show that Trump’s main super PAC, MAGA Inc., has spent $277 million supporting Republican candidates in the midterm elections, and still held around $164 million in cash as of last week. The expenditures were mainly made through affiliated super PACs, including a $200 million transfer to No Going Back PAC and a $25 million transfer to Safety & Affordability PAC. Since early September, MAGA Inc. has also spent about $34 million on its own to run ads targeting Democratic House and Senate candidates. On the donor front, crypto billionaire Bijan Tehrani and conservative AI think tank Alliance for a Better Future each donated $1 million. Trump also previously said his political operation has pledged to invest $400 million in the midterms, with $300 million already allocated to advertising, voter outreach, rallies, and election monitoring.
