Microsoft cancels its AI partnership with UK data center provider Nscale, putting the latter’s IPO plans under pressure.

Microsoft has canceled its partnership with UK data center firm Nscale for the Loughton data center in Essex. Nscale was set to serve as the facility’s anchor tenant, with plans to lease around 23,000 Nvidia AI chips. The project was part of Microsoft’s 22-billion-pound UK investment pledge announced last year. Nscale is pursuing a U.S. initial public offering (IPO) valued at up to roughly $35 billion, and Microsoft’s withdrawal is viewed as a major setback for the company. The project also faces a delay in grid power supply, which is now pushed back to the 2030s. Nscale previously stated that over 40% of its $103 billion in contracted revenue comes from Microsoft, though this UK deal is believed to represent a smaller share, with Anthropic being another key client.

Citrini's View: Samsung is the top pick among the three major memory manufacturers, and is expected to absorb excess demand for NVHBM.

Citrini analyst Jukan stated in a post that among the three major storage vendors, he is most bullish on Samsung Electronics. Due to TSMC still needing to allocate wafer capacity for NVIDIA’s Rubin and Rubin Ultra, it cannot take on large volumes of NVHBM orders. Only Samsung, which has in-house foundry capabilities, can meet the excess demand for NVHBM. South Korean media previously reported that at NVIDIA’s request, Samsung has decided to use TSMC’s 3nm process to manufacture NVHBM base chips. Samsung has not fully ruled out in-house foundry production and is verifying whether it can produce base chips independently when NVHBM demand outstrips TSMC’s capacity.

Saylor criticizes MSCI for its bias against digital assets, stating that Strategy is an operating company.

Strategy founder Michael Saylor recently told Bloomberg that MSCI’s plan to exclude firms like Strategy from global stock indices is disappointing. He argued that classifying oil, natural gas, land and machinery as capital while excluding Bitcoin amounts to a biased value judgment, adding MSCI is acting like an unregistered investment advisor. The exclusion will have limited impact on Strategy, but Saylor hopes MSCI will reconsider the move. He stressed that Strategy is an operating company whose product is "digital credit", noting it belongs to the same category of financial operators as banks and insurance firms, rather than a holding company. Earlier, MSCI finalized its rule to remove "non-operating companies" from the Global Investable Market Index, which is set to take effect after trading closes on November 30, with the final affected list to be announced on November 11.
