JPMorgan: AI stocks could drive 70% of Asia's profit growth in 2027, supply constraints likely to persist until 2028

JPMorgan Chase analysts said AI stocks currently make up up to half of the weight of Asian indices, and the sector is projected to drive 70% of the region’s profit growth in 2027. In the report, analysts noted that Asia’s AI exposure is concentrated mainly in the hardware sector, and supply tightness is expected to persist through at least 2028, which will grant related companies significant pricing power. They added that the areas facing the most severe shortages include advanced logic chips, chip packaging, semiconductor equipment, Ajinomoto Build-up Film (ABF) substrates, high-end copper clad laminate materials, high-bandwidth memory (HBM), and high-speed optical components. JPMorgan projects that by 2028, the entire AI ecosystem will generate net profit exceeding $1 trillion and free cash flow of $700 billion. The firm maintains an "overweight" rating on tech stocks, the Taiwan (China) stock market, and South Korea’s stock market.

French lawmakers support imposing reporting requirements on crypto wallets with holdings exceeding 100,000 euros.

French lawmakers are backing a proposal that would require individuals holding self-custodied crypto assets valued at €100,000 (roughly $112,000) or more to report their holdings, with violators facing penalties. The amendment, designated I-CF821, was passed by the Finance Committee of the French National Assembly last Friday. It seeks to introduce reporting requirements for crypto assets not held through crypto asset service providers (CASPs), including those stored in personal wallets. The amendment would add relevant provisions to France’s General Tax Code. Under the proposal, holders must declare the value of their qualifying assets as of December 31 each year; those who fail to report face a maximum fine of €10,000. Proponents of the measure state it is designed to combat tax evasion. They cited a parliamentary inquiry into tax issues involving high-net-worth individuals, noting that France’s crypto asset capital gains hit €3.5 billion in 2021, while only €400 million in crypto holdings were reported to tax authorities that year.
