Jev has gone viral for two weeks, and OpenAI has also launched an API dedicated solely to judgment.

Beating AI Flash News: OpenAI launched the Decisions API at its DevDay. Unlike models that generate long-form responses, this API is built specifically to handle quick decision-making tasks within applications. Developers first provide it with clear options, then input text or images. Powered by GPT-6 Luna, it delivers judgments in hundreds of milliseconds. Use cases include routing messages to sales or customer service, or letting an agent select the next tool to call. While general large language models could handle such tasks before, they typically required generating a text output that the program would then parse. The Decisions API instead restricts Luna to a set of candidate answers, targeting faster execution for these high-frequency small decisions. This is reminiscent of the recently viral Jev. TypeSafe also shifts AI’s function from "generating text" to "making direct choices", though the two are not identical: Jev is a purpose-trained decision model, while OpenAI’s current offering is a restricted decision feature built on Luna, with extra support for image input. The Decisions API is currently in limited preview, and OpenAI plans to expand its access in the coming days.
