Beating AI News Flash: Per market sources, Nvidia has pledged a $1 billion investment in AI computing power firm Nscale, with the funds expected to be in place mid-November. On September 19 earlier this year, AI data center operator Nscale filed an IPO application with the U.S. SEC, planning to list in New York and raise up to $3 billion under the proposed ticker symbol NSCL. The company spun off from its cryptocurrency mining business in early 2024 and has since transitioned to become an AI computing infrastructure service provider. According to the prospectus, as of August 2026, Nscale owns and controls data centers with a power capacity exceeding 10GW, with total contract value of roughly $103 billion, including a $45 billion lease commitment from Anthropic this August. The company’s clients and partners include Nvidia, Microsoft, and other firms.

US midterm elections approaching: Control of Congress to be decided by the November 3 vote.

The 2026 U.S. midterm elections will be held on November 3, with 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats up for election. Currently, Republicans control both chambers of Congress, holding a narrow majority in the House. According to the latest assessment from the Cook Political Report, 21 House seats are classified as "competitive", while 7 Senate seats fall into the same category. Key issues in this election include the economy, cost of living, the Iran war, and oil prices. The latest CNN/SSRS poll shows only 27% of respondents approve of Trump’s handling of the economy, and Democratic candidates lead Republicans by 8 percentage points in the national congressional generic ballot. Additionally, a September Reuters/Ipsos poll puts Trump’s overall approval rating at 32%, a new low in his political career, with inflation and the ongoing Iran war cited as major factors driving dissatisfaction with his performance. If Democrats secure enough seats to control either the House or Senate in the election, it will alter the partisan makeup of Congress and impact the legislative and policy progress of the Trump administration moving forward.

The first crypto tax filing season in the US is underway: trading platforms report transaction volumes, while cost bases must still be calculated independently by taxpayers.

U.S. crypto brokers are for the first time this year reporting proceeds from the sale of certain digital assets to the IRS under new rules, but in 2025, they will generally only be required to report sale proceeds, not cost basis, leaving taxpayers to calculate their actual gains and losses on their own. An August survey by Awaken Tax of 1,000 U.S. crypto investors found that 21% of respondents who had already filed taxes or requested extensions were still waiting for exchanges to provide required information, while roughly 20% said the 1099-DA forms they received had incomplete information or could not be verified for accuracy. Tax experts note that transfers across exchanges, wallets, and frequent trading further complicate cost basis tracking, and some users’ 1099-DA forms also contain discrepancies with their actual transaction records. Starting in 2026, brokers will generally be required to report cost basis for eligible digital assets, though assets transferred in from other exchanges or wallets may still fall outside this requirement.
