The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has issued a public comment notice on the listing of computing power derivative contracts and related market regulatory issues, aiming to further understand and improve oversight of the computing power derivatives market. CFTC Chair Michael S. Selig stated: "Without a robust computing power derivatives market, the U.S. cannot win the AI race." He noted that just as U.S. markets once set trading standards for commodities driving the industrial economy, they will also establish corresponding rules for computing power commodities underpinning the "intelligent economy" going forward. The public consultation marks the first step in establishing clear rules for the U.S. computing power market. The process covers topics including the size, liquidity and other market characteristics of the computing power spot market, as well as market regulation, manipulation risks, customer protection, computing power perpetual futures, and other issues, inviting market participants to submit feedback on additional aspects of the computing power market.
