Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan said that even if the CLARITY Act fails to pass this week, the crypto industry will continue moving forward. The U.S. Senate is in recess from August 10 to September 11, leaving only about three days to advance the bill before lawmakers depart. Hougan argued that if Congress fails to pass the bill, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) may address many of its issues through rulemaking. Rules issued by the SEC, led by Paul Atkins, in the short term could be more favorable to the crypto industry and innovation than a bipartisan bill, but the risk is that future administrations may appoint SEC chairs with different stances and reverse such policies. He noted that if the bill does not pass this week, it will enter a "zombie" state—possibly delayed until fall or winter 2026, or included in year-end omnibus legislation. Long-term uncertainty will continue to deter institutional investors from entering the crypto market on a large scale. Polymarket data shows the probability of the bill being signed into law by the end of 2026 is currently 23%, down from around 75% in mid-May. Hougan still believes Congress should pass the bill, calling it imperfect but helpful for protecting investors, improving ethics, boosting U.S. economic growth, and enhancing America’s competitiveness in on-chain finance.

Despite repeated denials from Iranian officials, US President Donald Trump said Washington and Iran are holding "very good discussions". "We are having very good discussions. It’s a bit disturbing that they are unwilling to admit this," Trump stated in an interview with Fox News. "The only thing that matters is action. SlowMist has published a report detecting a large-scale npm supply chain attack impacting the Keyv/Cacheable ecosystem. Attackers have released over 2,000 malicious package versions in the ecosystem, including keyv@6.0.0. Keyv is a widely used key-value storage abstraction layer supporting backends such as Redis, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB, with approximately 127 million weekly downloads, which could trigger widespread downstream supply chain risks. The attack method is highly similar to the previous Shai-Hulud npm worm activity, demonstrating the attackers’ strong automation and propagation capabilities. Potential malicious actions include credential theft, exfiltration of environment variables, leakage of CI/CD secrets, remote payload delivery, and lateral movement via infected development environments. Security teams are advised to immediately identify and remove affected versions, upgrade to verified secure versions, check dependency lock files and build logs, monitor for abnormal outbound connections, and rotate any exposed credentials. If an environment is suspected to be compromised, rebuild it from trusted sources.

Trade.xyz purchased the code of Unitree (宇树科技) on HIP-3 for 565.54 HYPE, and may launch Unitree’s perpetual contract trading in the coming days. Earlier, HIP-3 decentralized exchange Paragon acquired Unitree’s code via auction for 577.66 HYPE, and has already launched pre-IPO perpetual contracts for the Chinese firm.
