Goldman Sachs: Japan's AI semiconductor stocks haven't "broken" after their sharp plunge, Intel's capital expenditure hike creates a buying opportunity.

Goldman Sachs Japan’s latest strategy report points out that the recent sharp sell-off in Japanese AI-related stocks has created a buying opportunity, as strong earnings prospects are expected to revive investor interest in semiconductor shares. The direct catalyst for this assessment comes from Intel: the chipmaker raised its 2026 capital expenditure outlook by approximately $3 billion, and explicitly stated it will significantly increase spending on wafer manufacturing equipment. Goldman Sachs believes that Intel’s acceleration of capacity ramp-up for advanced processes (including 18A and 14A nodes) and investment in advanced packaging will directly drive orders for closely related Japanese equipment suppliers, and the industry’s trading logic has not broken amid short-term adjustments. Under this framework, Goldman Sachs has named three Japanese semiconductor manufacturing equipment firms as top recommendations. Lasertec is listed as the industry’s top pick, with a maintained Buy rating and a target price of 70,000 yen; it remains on the Asia-Pacific High Conviction Buy List, and its high exposure to Intel’s sales will directly benefit from the advancement of advanced processes. Tokyo Electron also maintains a Buy rating, with a target price of 83,000 yen (current price is approximately 62,800 yen), as Intel’s increased fab equipment budget will support its demand for manufacturing tools. Disco, meanwhile, will benefit from Intel’s plan to expand EMIB-T advanced packaging capacity, with structural upside expected in demand for its back-end processing equipment.

SK Hynix’s Conference Call: No Signs of a Slowdown in AI Investments, Pledges to Consolidate Its Leading Position in the HBM Sector

SK Hynix is currently holding an analyst call: No signs of a slowdown in artificial intelligence (AI) investment have been observed, and AI infrastructure spending will remain robust beyond 2027. The company expects long-term agreements will not lead to oversupply; terms of these deals vary, but typically span 5 years. Trade.xyz Announces Full Compensation for SK Hynix Contract Abnormal Liquidation Incident, Accelerates Pricing Mechanism Reform

Trade.xyz has issued an announcement regarding the SK Hynix contract pinning incident: At 23:01 UTC on July 27, the SK Hynix token mark price plummeted from $1,127.9 to $917.25, triggering mass liquidations of long positions. The price stemmed from an actual executed trade captured by multiple independent data providers; the external venue is a major South Korean pre-market. The platform’s oracle system operated per established specifications, synchronously tracking prices from external exchanges and functioning "as designed" technically. However, the exchange acknowledged that user dissatisfaction with the resulting liquidations is understandable, stressing that "market integrity is Trade.xyz’s core value". Accordingly, Trade.xyz has decided to cover all liquidation losses caused by this price anomaly on a one-time, discretionary basis. Specific eligibility requirements will be released shortly, with payouts expected to be completed within days, though the platform clarified that this decision "does not constitute a guarantee for similar scenarios in the future". Mechanistically, the platform will accelerate a review of its pricing methodology—including re-evaluating assumptions about reliance on external venues and assigning higher weight to its own order book price discovery (its order book depth and signal strength have already improved significantly relative to external sources)—to better handle tail events.

Robinhood CEO Confirms X Account Was Hacked Last Week

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev stated that his X account was hacked last week. Attackers used social engineering to deceive X customer support, bypassing security measures including two-factor authentication and login alerts, and posted fake content related to meme coins. X’s security team assisted in quickly removing the posts and restoring account access the same day. The platform has since implemented additional security protections for the account to prevent similar incidents. On the early morning of July 24, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account was reportedly compromised, with an abnormal post published early that announced the launch of Robinhood Chain’s “official” mascot token Vladhood (VLAD), along with the token’s contract address.
