Per market data from BIT (bit.com), SpaceX’s stock price fell to a record low of $110.85 today, far below its $135 IPO price and nearly halved from its post-listing peak of $225.64. Ortex co-founder Peter Hillerberg noted, “There are no signs that short sellers are taking profits—if anything, they are adding to their positions.” As of Tuesday, approximately 360 million SpaceX shares (around 56% of freely tradable shares) have been lent out for short selling, with short positions highly concentrated.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced it will hold a roundtable at its Washington headquarters on September 17, 2026, to discuss topics related to transitioning U.S. stock markets to 24-hour trading, including preparations for supporting overnight trading, operations and resilience in an all-day market, as well as the opportunities and challenges brought by extended trading hours. SEC Chair Paul Atkins stated in a release: “We are moving toward a new day—and a new night—for U.S. stock markets. With the expansion to overnight trading, I am excited to see U.S. stock markets align with those that already offer continuous trading, and to balance all-day trading while upholding the critical priority of protecting investors and clients.” The roundtable is open to the public; discussions will be live-streamed on the SEC’s official website, with a recording available afterward. This roundtable marks another step by the SEC under Atkins’ leadership to modernize U.S. capital market infrastructure, following the electronic delivery rules and crypto regulatory framework.
