SpaceX’s shares dipped to $110.85, hitting their lowest level since the company’s IPO, as investors focus on the next Starship launch.

The UK’s HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has disclosed that since launching its special crypto tax compliance drive in November 2023, it has reached disclosure settlements with 502 crypto investors over the past two years, recovering more than ￡8 million in taxes, for an average settlement of roughly ￡16,600 per case. Of these, 280 settlements were recorded in the 2024/25 fiscal year involving ￡3.54 million, while 222 settlements in the 2025/26 fiscal year brought in around ￡4.78 million. Meanwhile, the number of "reminder letters" HMRC sent to crypto investors has surged sharply: 64,982 in the 2024/25 fiscal year, a 680% jump from three to four years earlier. As the UK joins the OECD’s Crypto Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), crypto service providers will be required to compulsorily collect and report user identity and transaction data to authorities starting January 2026, further limiting investors’ ability to conceal gains. Currently, around 8% of UK adults (approximately 4.5 million people) hold crypto assets.

U.S. Trade Representative Greer is set to release a tariff announcement today. Notably, the new tariff announcement is an extension of previous tariffs. Earlier, Trump said he would implement new tariffs on dozens of countries as soon as this week, and the current 10% global tariff is set to expire this week. The U.S. government is considering maintaining the 10% tariff rate for many countries, while exploring legal avenues to impose higher tariffs on others.

Elon Musk warned in a post on X last Friday that "institutions maintaining significant short positions in SpaceX over the long term have a very low survival probability." However, short sellers have not backed down. According to data from Ortex Technologies, investors shorting SpaceX have accumulated roughly $15.5 billion in paper profits since the company went public in mid-June. Per market data from BIT (bit.com), SpaceX’s stock price fell to a record low of $110.85 today, far below its $135 IPO price and nearly halved from its post-listing peak of $225.64. Ortex co-founder Peter Hillerberg noted, “There are no signs that short sellers are taking profits—if anything, they are adding to their positions.” As of Tuesday, approximately 360 million SpaceX shares (around 56% of freely tradable shares) have been lent out for short selling, with short positions highly concentrated.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced it will hold a roundtable at its Washington headquarters on September 17, 2026, to discuss topics related to transitioning U.S. stock markets to 24-hour trading, including preparations for supporting overnight trading, operations and resilience in an all-day market, as well as the opportunities and challenges brought by extended trading hours. SEC Chair Paul Atkins stated in a release: “We are moving toward a new day—and a new night—for U.S. stock markets. With the expansion to overnight trading, I am excited to see U.S. stock markets align with those that already offer continuous trading, and to balance all-day trading while upholding the critical priority of protecting investors and clients.” The roundtable is open to the public; discussions will be live-streamed on the SEC’s official website, with a recording available afterward. This roundtable marks another step by the SEC under Atkins’ leadership to modernize U.S. capital market infrastructure, following the electronic delivery rules and crypto regulatory framework.
