Oasis Labs founder Song Xiaodong joins Meta's Superintelligence Lab as Vice President of AI Research.

Meta has brought on board three co-founders and the core team of AI security and governance startup Virtue AI. Per the arrangement, Dawn Song, Virtue AI co-founder and a University of California, Berkeley professor, will serve as Vice President of AI Research at Meta, joining Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) and reporting to head Nat Friedman alongside fellow Virtue AI co-founder Bo Li. Another co-founder, Sanmi Koyejo, will join Meta’s Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) Lab. The collaboration only involves the team joining Meta, and does not include an acquisition of Virtue AI as a corporate entity, its intellectual property, or customer contracts. Founded in 2024, Virtue AI focuses on enterprise-grade AI security infrastructure, with products covering automated red team testing, runtime safeguards, and AI agent security governance tools. Meta aims to leverage the team’s technical capabilities to further enhance the security of its autonomous software agents in areas such as data leak protection and malicious command detection. Notably, Dawn Song previously founded privacy computing network Oasis Labs, which received investments from prominent firms including a16z Crypto, Accel, Polychain, and Pantera. Virtue AI also secured early-stage support from institutions such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, Walden Catalyst Ventures, and Prosperity7 Ventures.
