Drift Protocol TVL Slashed by Half, Potential Loss of $270 Million

April 2: Solana DeFi protocol Drift Protocol was hacked this morning. Preliminary estimates indicate roughly $220 million to $270 million in assets were suspiciously transferred to the address HkGz4K. Subsequently, some of the stolen assets were bridged to Ethereum to purchase ETH—19,913 ETH has been acquired so far, totaling $42.6 million. The attacker also converted a portion of the stolen SOL to ETH on Hyperliquid and transferred additional stolen SOL to Binance. Current on-chain data shows Drift Protocol’s total value locked (TVL) has plummeted to $255 million, a sharp drop from its pre-hack TVL of $534 million.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on April 2 that the U.S. neither needed the Strait of Hormuz in the past nor needs it now. Once the conflict ends, the strait will naturally reopen. Iran is effectively destroyed, and the hardest part is behind us. Iran had been stockpiling conventional ballistic missiles that could soon have reached the U.S. mainland, Europe, and nearly any other location on Earth. Iran possessed certain weapons that no one believed it had, and we destroyed those weapons.
