Bloomberg: Option Traders Reload Bets on Bitcoin Rising to $100,000 by January

2026.01.06 17:22:29

As of January 6, Bloomberg reports traders in the Bitcoin options market are refocusing on the $100,000 price level. Amid a shift to bullish sentiment, investors are expected to rotate back into crypto assets following the fourth-quarter market crash. Deribit—Coinbase Global Inc.’s derivatives trading platform—data shows the Bitcoin options market is most concentrated on $100,000-strike contracts expiring January 30. Their notional value is more than double that of the second-most popular contract: $80,000-strike puts expiring the same day. Jake Ostrovskis, Wintermute’s head of OTC trading, noted: “While the scale isn’t huge, the direction is consistent—it builds on the large $100k-strike positions seen last week. Some put skew still appears in the current curve, but it’s softened significantly. That said, I think the market no longer expects the most pessimistic downside moves, and conditions seem to be stabilizing slightly.” This marks a stark shift in sentiment from the late 2025 crypto crash, when spot markets continued to sell off and premiums for downside protection—via costly put options—surged. Satraj Bambra, CEO of hybrid trading platform Rails, says: “Retesting the $100k-$106k range isn’t out of the question—this is typical in bearish structures. For Bitcoin to turn bullish, it needs to reclaim and hold above $106k on a weekly timeframe to try challenging its prior all-time high.”

LONG co-founder Nate posted a statement noting that regardless of personal circumstances, macroeconomic conditions, or significant market volatility, the team will continue building out the LONG ecosystem and its community for the long term. Nate added that the team will remain focused on RWA trading pairs and will not pivot to short-term narratives or other directions. He emphasized that the LONG ecosystem is still in its early stages, and the industry should not be limited to zero-sum competition between different blockchains, ecosystems, or assets, but should instead focus on introducing new use cases and users. Additionally, Nate revealed that the team has completed improvements to the new application version—including fixes for wallet and token list issues and the addition of a LONG PVE filtering feature—and the update is expected to launch soon.

Update on Kalshi's 'transaction fraud' incident: The involved KOL is soliciting hard evidence of Kalshi's misconduct across all online platforms.

Quantitative analyst Beni, who previously publicly questioned Kalshi over alleged false transaction volumes, posted on social media calling for "formal evidence of Kalshi’s misconduct", requiring hard proof such as screenshots, emails, data, timestamps and other concrete evidence. BlockBeats previously reported that Beni publicly accused Kalshi of fabricating crypto contract transaction volumes, noting that while the platform’s ETH-PERP open interest stood at just $3.1 million, its 24-hour trading volume hit $538.6 million—equivalent to roughly 174 full turnovers of all open positions per day, or an average turnover every 8 minutes and 18 seconds. In response, Kalshi’s head of crypto business IcoBeast.eth stated that Artemis’ data charts display the proportion of prediction market trading volumes, not perpetual contract volumes. However, market discussions have also extended to the prediction market segment. A KOL claimed that roughly 61% of Kalshi’s disclosed trading volume comes from "multi-event parlay bets", and the actual transaction value of these parlay bets may only be around 7.1% of the parlay amounts Kalshi publicly reports.
