Trump Targets Powell Again, Calls for Fed Rate Cut

2025.10.29 13:56:25

On October 29th, President Trump criticized the Federal Reserve on Thursday. He once again directed his criticism at Fed Chair Jerome Powell, accusing him of being slow to take action on interest rate cuts. In a speech in South Korea, Trump mentioned "Jerome 'Too Late' Powell", which caused laughter among business executives and leaders attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Trump further said, "We will not allow the Fed to raise interest rates because they are concerned about inflation three years from now." This statement may imply that he recognizes that inflation could eventually pick up. He predicted that the U.S. economy will achieve 4% growth in the first quarter of 2026, which is significantly higher than the median economist forecast from a Reuters survey. As economists believe, the new import tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are expected to continue to have a negative impact on economic growth. Thursday's remarks highlighted the tense relationship between Trump and the Fed. Trump criticized Powell for not cutting rates quickly enough, stating that the Fed lagged behind its European counterparts and damaged business confidence. (FXStreet)

US Judge Dismisses Class Action Lawsuit Against Uniswap 'Rug Pull Token', Rules Issuers Not Liable for Token Misdeeds

March 3 — A U.S. federal judge has dismissed the remaining state law claims against Uniswap Labs and founder Hayden Adams, bringing an end to the long-running class-action lawsuit, The Block reported. The suit sought to hold the decentralized exchange (DEX) protocol developer liable for fraudulent tokens traded on its platform. U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla of the Southern District of New York issued a ruling with preclusive effect, dismissing the plaintiffs’ second amended complaint. She ruled the plaintiffs cannot hold the company accountable for misconduct by an unidentified third-party token issuer. Uniswap General Counsel Brian Nistler said the ruling sets an important precedent for the decentralized finance (DeFi) industry, reaffirming developers are not liable for third parties misusing open-source code for illegal activities.

Latest Update on US-Iran Situation: Iran Claims to Have Closed the Strait of Hormuz, US Response States It Has Not Closed

On March 3, Ebrahim Jabari, an advisor to the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), issued a stark warning: the Strait of Hormuz is closed, Iran will fire on any vessel attempting to transit the waterway, and it will target oil pipelines and tanker routes. This marks the most explicit threat since Iran notified ships on Saturday it would shut the critical export chokepoint—one that handles roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments, a move that could disrupt supplies and send crude prices sharply higher. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) pushed back, however, stating the Strait of Hormuz remains open despite the IRGC’s claims. Iran is not patrolling the strait, and there are no signs it is laying mines there, a Fox News reporter noted. Global crude prices surged in response. On the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), April light crude futures jumped $4.21 to settle at $71.23 per barrel—up 6.28% on March 2. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday t

U.S. Appeals Court Rejects Trump Administration's Delay of Tariff Refund Request

March 3 — The U.S. Supreme Court had previously ruled most tariffs imposed by the Trump administration were invalid. The Justice Department (DOJ) later appealed to a federal appeals court, seeking a 90-day extension (for a total delay of roughly four months) to let the executive and legislative branches weigh options. However, the federal circuit court of appeals rejected the DOJ’s request, clearing the way for the tariff refund process to move forward quickly. The ruling paves the way for the U.S. International Trade Court (the lower court) to launch legal proceedings tied to tariff refunds. DOJ attorneys note the refund process could take several years to wrap up. Since the Supreme Court’s decision, hundreds more companies have filed tariff refund lawsuits, pushing the total number of tariff-related cases against the Trump administration to over 2,000.
