Standard Chartered Bank Analyst: Still Expects Bitcoin Price to Potentially Reach $200,000 by End of Year

2025.01.27 20:22:25

January 27th: Geoffrey Kendrick, an analyst at Standard Chartered Bank, proposed purchasing Bitcoin during a dip as the cryptocurrency is facing increasing correlation pressure with the Nasdaq. Geoffrey Kendrick, the head of Foreign Exchange and Digital Asset Research at Standard Chartered Bank, said, "The correlation between Bitcoin and the Nasdaq remains extremely strong; it is much higher than its correlation with gold." He pointed out that the Nasdaq futures dropped by 3% due to news related to DeepSeek, which triggered significant overnight cryptocurrency liquidation and further strengthened the connection between cryptocurrencies and the US stock tech sector. Kendrick stated, "The current risk is that if the Nasdaq liquidation continues during US trading hours (and considering the earnings announcements of Microsoft, Meta, and Tesla on Wednesday, as well as the potentially disappointing FOMC meeting), we may be approaching other key levels for Bitcoin." He added, "Specifically, since the US election, the average buying level for Bitcoin ETF is now $96,400." Kendrick also referred to the cryptocurrency executive order issued by the Trump administration last week, which requires a working group to assess a national digital asset reserve. He pointed out that this announcement brought uncertainty to the market. Kendrick said, "I am disappointed in two aspects of this: 1. The term 'reserve' seems more like seized assets rather than purchased assets. 2. The executive order has been issued, and any further clarification or action will need to go through Congress, which may take some time." Kendrick said, "The disappointment/confusion phase and the 'hope' phase are over, reducing the risk in the Bitcoin market." He believes that the next phase will be 'buying on the dip.' Last week, Kendrick outlined three stages: 'when hope fades,' 'buying on the dip,' and 'altcoin alpha.' In the second stage, he predicted that institutional funds would dominate the market and reiterated Standard Chartered Bank's price target for Bitcoin of $200,000 and for Ethereum of $10,000, expecting to be achieved by the end of this year. Xie Jiayin: The previous suspension of withdrawals was due to attacks involving multiple blockchains; withdrawals will be reopened to users only after all risks are fully eliminated.

Bitget’s Head of Chinese-speaking Markets Xie Jiayin stated during the "Bitget Event Review" live stream that the exchange suspended withdrawals following the recent attack because the incident involved multiple blockchains, rather than a single asset or network. Before completing checks and verification at every stage, Bitget did not want to expose any users to risk. Reopening withdrawals required separate fixes and security verifications for each chain, so phased recovery by chain and asset would take time. Xie emphasized that the withdrawal suspension had no connection to Bitget’s capital sufficiency. The Bitget Protection Fund totals $464 million, which fully covers losses from the attack. Furthermore, Bitget’s Proof of Reserves is 127%, and this figure is fully public and transparent.

Xiaomi confirms MiMo-V2.6 suffers from a looping issue: Reinforcement Learning (RL) worsened the bad behavior during training, with repairs totaling $90,000.

Beating AI Express, Insight: Xiaomi’s MiMo team has reviewed the repeated tool call issue following the launch of MiMo-V2.6. The model sometimes repeatedly invokes identical or highly similar tools, draining context without advancing task progress. In OpenCode, the share of responses with repeated tool calls for Flash and Pro once hit 1.02% and 0.54% respectively. The root cause lies in reinforcement learning (RL) reward design: training prioritizes rewarding "final task completion accuracy" but fails to adequately penalize inefficient in-process behaviors. The original rule only imposed penalties when single-round tool calls exceeded 32 times; repeated calls under 32 times incurred no penalty at all. As RL scale expanded, this "bad habit" was further reinforced. After reviewing training checkpoints, Xiaomi found the proportion of abnormal samples with single-round calls over 10 times in Flash rose from 11.1% at step 0 to 24.6% at step 20. The most direct fix would have been cutting the penalty threshold from 32 to 8 calls, then re-running ~20 MixRL steps, estimated at $2.31 million. Instead, Xiaomi trained a dedicated RL teacher to correct repeated calls, running 12 steps and ~7,000 samples, then integrating this capability back into Pro and Flash via MOPD. The full fix cost ~$90,000, just 4% of the full retraining plan, with other key benchmarks largely unchanged. The fixed MiMo-V2.6-Pro-MOPD and Flash-MOPD weights are now available, and the API has been switched to the new version with unchanged call names. Xiaomi will also reset the remaining quota for MiMo Desktop users’ current cycle.
