Analysis: This round of the Bitcoin bull market is more driven by institutions and long-term capital rather than retail speculation

2025.05.22 09:48:12

On May 22nd, Presto Research analyst Min Jung pointed out that this increase was primarily driven by the funding accumulation of companies like Strategy, Metaplanet, and Twenty One Capital. This indicates that this bull market is more influenced by institutions and long-term capital rather than retail speculation. Roshan Robert, the CEO of OKX US, believes that the Bitcoin rally is the outcome of multiple factors such as corporate treasury strategies, a sharp increase in ETF inflows, macroeconomic uncertainties, and favorable regulatory signals. Presto Research has maintained its $210,000 Bitcoin price target for 2025, as announced at the end of 2024. (The Block)

U.S. Gen Z has become the first generation in history to be exposed to investing at an earlier age, with nearly half showing greater interest in emerging options like cryptocurrency.

U.S. Bank’s 2026 Wealth Survey shows that U.S. Gen Zers start building wealth at an average age of 19, significantly earlier than previous generations. The survey covered 5,000 U.S. adults aged 18 and older. Findings indicate Gen Zers begin intentionally building wealth (e.g., investing, saving for retirement, or long-term savings) at 19 on average—six years earlier than millennials (25), 10 years earlier than Gen X (29), and 13 years earlier than Baby Boomers (32). Despite starting earlier, 56% of Gen Zers feel they are “doing everything right” but haven’t reached their expected financial standing; 62% report struggling to make financial progress, and nearly half (49%) have paused or plan to pause investing. The survey also found that as traditional milestones like homeownership become less attainable, younger generations are turning to alternative paths. 62% of Gen Zers and 61% of millennials view the stock market as a more realistic route to wealth than buying a home (compared to 51% of Gen X and 45% of Baby Boomers). Meanwhile, around 47% of Gen Zers get financial information from social media; nearly half of young people are more interested in emerging options like cryptocurrency, though most still consider traditional investing the best way to achieve long-term goals. Family support is also on the rise, with roughly 70% of parents having provided or planning to provide assistance for their children’s major life milestones.

Variational unveils its tokenomics: genesis airdrop accounts for 32%, with a projected Q4 token generation event (TGE).

Arbitrum-based derivatives protocol Variational has unveiled the tokenomics for its VAR token: 32% of the total token supply will be allocated to a genesis airdrop, distributed proportionally to users’ points, with 100% unlocked at the Token Generation Event (TGE); 18% goes to the ecosystem reserve, managed by the foundation; and 50% is reserved for the team and investors, locked for 12 months post-TGE before linear unlocking over a minimum of 3 years. The team plans to hold the TGE in the fourth quarter (Q4), with 150,000 points issued weekly until then. A minimum of 1 point is required to claim the airdrop, and unclaimed airdrop allocations will be burned. Additionally, 100% of the protocol’s revenue will be used to buy back and burn VAR tokens.
