OKX Ventures: Ethereum's Gas Limit Increase Bullish for Network, Past 7 Days Showed Significant Inflow

2025.02.05 19:30:14

On February 5th, OKX Ventures announced on social media that since the Ethereum merge in 2022, the network has for the first time increased its gas limit. This alteration will enable the Ethereum network to handle a greater number of transactions, reduce congestion, and assist in stabilizing transaction fees. This adjustment has enhanced Ethereum's capacity to process complex smart contracts and high-demand decentralized applications (dApps), improving the transaction speed and scalability of decentralized finance (DeFi) and other on-chain innovations. In the past 7 days, the Ethereum network has witnessed a net inflow of funds totaling $1.1 billion. In contrast, Base has only seen a net inflow of $104 million, and Solana has only seen a net inflow of $33 million. Moreover, the funds flowing from Solana to Ethereum are four times greater than the funds flowing in the opposite direction, indicating a shift in liquidity as capital flows into Ethereum increase. The recent net inflows into Ethereum spot ETFs have also been steadily increasing (today's net inflow is $307 million), suggesting a significant increase in investor interest in ETH ETFs.

Former senior Japanese foreign exchange diplomat: Yen intervention could resume at any time, and the Bank of Japan may raise interest rates in September.

Mitsuhiro Furusawa, a former senior Japanese foreign exchange diplomat and ex-deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stated that at current exchange rate levels, the yen is clearly too weak and is damaging Japan’s economy by pushing up import costs. He noted that if the yen returns to its level before last month’s coordinated intervention, Japan and the U.S. could conduct another joint foreign exchange market intervention at any time, with no fixed target level such as 160 or 162 yen. Furusawa added that intervention only buys time, and a more fundamental solution is for the Bank of Japan (BOJ) to accelerate its pace of interest rate hikes. He forecasts the BOJ will raise interest rates in September, followed by another hike in December or January next year. He estimates the BOJ ultimately aims to lift rates to around 1.5% to 1.75%, a projection based on his estimate of the neutral interest rate, which ranges from 1.1% to 2.5%. If the economy maintains its growth momentum, further rate hikes could be possible in the fiscal year starting April 2027. (Jinshi)
