Taiko and DoraHacks are jointly launching the largest-scale MACI community vote event in the Ethereum ecosystem

2025.01.29 00:00:12

On January 28th, the Ethereum Layer 2 network Taiko successfully held its first online hackathon and partnered with DoraHacks to launch the largest-ever anonymous community vote. The number of participants in this vote exceeded 920,000, making it the largest on-chain vote using MACI technology within the Ethereum community. Taiko's Grant Factory hackathon motivated developers to come up with and design innovative solutions, interesting applications, or projects with positive social impacts. After months of hard work, the finalists have submitted their final votes, marking a significant step towards more community-driven decision-making. Minimal Anti-Collusion Infrastructure (MACI), initially put forward by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, is a voting mechanism that utilizes zero-knowledge proofs to provide privacy protection and anti-collusion for the community. Focusing on the flaws in traditional voting systems such as fraud, collusion, and lack of privacy, a method to address these issues on-chain was proposed. MACI uses zero-knowledge technology to ensure that votes remain encrypted, maintain the integrity of the vote, and prevent vote-buying or coercion. In a MACI voting round, there are two roles: the operator and the user. Users submit encrypted votes on-chain to the MACI smart contract. All votes have on-chain timestamps, and only the operator can view the vote contents. The results are published by the operator after the vote ends.

Chinese victims in the Qian Zhimin case may only be able to recover their principal and interest.

According to Caixin, a UK court has issued a key ruling in the cross-border asset recovery dispute involving over 61,000 Bitcoin linked to China’s Tianjin Lantian Gerui illegal fundraising case. A judgment obtained by Caixin from the UK High Court on October 12 (local time) shows that the High Court ruled property rights claims filed by Chinese investors over the Bitcoin in question should be adjudicated under Chinese law, not UK law. This means around 16,000 Chinese victims who have joined the UK recovery process may not be able to claim the massive value gains from Bitcoin’s price surge under UK law, and can only recover their principal plus interest at most. Qian Zhimin purchased Bitcoin via Huobi in 2014 at an average price of around 2,815 yuan. Since then, Bitcoin’s price has risen sharply. Despite multiple rounds of extreme volatility, as of October 12, 2026, Bitcoin’s price stood at around 560,000 yuan, roughly 200 times the average price Qian paid back then. During the trial held from July 7 to 9 this year, the Director of the UK Crown Prosecution Service argued for applying Chinese law, while the liquidator of Tianjin Lantian Gerui Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. supported this stance. Lawyers representing Chinese individual investors, however, advocated applying UK law or a combination of Chinese and UK laws. The court ultimately upheld the position of the UK prosecution authorities.

Qianwen Go! Exposé: AI reviews flight orders, negotiates with customer service, secures 70 yuan in cash for users

Beating AI Express (Insight) News: Alibaba’s Qianwen is set to launch a personal intelligent agent named "Qianwen Go!", which can operate real apps to handle complex tasks requiring repeated queries and communication on users’ behalf. According to beta test cases, it can already help users claim flight delay compensation and apply for Taobao price protection refunds. In one instance, a user only remembered a previous round-trip flight between Lanzhou and Hangzhou was delayed, but could not recall the specific flight number. Qianwen Go! checked four orders from four airlines, finally identifying China Eastern Airlines flight MU2445. After encountering issues with the customer service hotline, it switched to online customer service. Initially, the agent offered only a 70-yuan voucher; after the user rejected this, Qianwen Go! continued negotiating, ultimately securing 70 yuan in cash transferred to the user’s Alipay account. In another case, Qianwen Go! automatically checked a Taobao order, found a wok eligible for price protection, and successfully applied for a 52-yuan price difference refund. Initial supported scenarios also include car maintenance inquiries and bookings, sports venue reservations, and calculating the actual take-home price of home appliances, covering comprehensive subsidies, old appliance recycling, and delivery/installation fees. Qianwen had previously integrated Alibaba ecosystem services including Taobao, Fliggy, and Amap, enabling users to shop, order takeout, and book flights. This upgrade further extends to non-routine tasks such as after-sales and claims, where the agent must adjust its operational path based on execution results.
