Binance Lists Kyrgyz Som Stablecoin as Country Steps Up Crypto Efforts

December 25: Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov announced the official launch of stablecoin KGST—pegged to the national fiat currency som—on Binance, marking a key milestone in the Central Asian nation’s national crypto infrastructure development. In a post, Japarov noted the KGST launch will boost cross-border payments and deepen Kyrgyzstan’s ties to the global crypto ecosystem. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) later stated there will be “more government-backed stablecoins” launching on Binance going forward. This April, Zhao began offering technical and policy guidance to the Kyrgyzstan government. The landlocked Central Asian nation (population ~7 million) has drastically shifted its stance on digital assets over the past year. In September, Kyrgyzstan advanced legislation to create a national crypto reserve and grow its digital asset sector. Alongside KGST, Kyrgyzstan recently launched USDKG—a USD-pegged stablecoin backed by physical gold. The token initially launched on the Tron network with a 50 million supply and plans to expand to Ethereum later.
