Trump Suggests Fed Chair Nominee Is Set, Complains of Resistance to Powell's Firing

On November 19th, Trump declared that he is confident of having identified his candidate for the next Federal Reserve chairman. At the same time, he claimed that someone is preventing him from dismissing the current head of the central bank, Powell. Trump informed reporters, "I think I know my Fed choice." Nevertheless, he did not disclose the specific person. The U.S. Treasury Secretary Benson stated that he has narrowed down the candidates to current Fed governors Waller and Bowman, former Fed governor Warsh, White House National Economic Council Director Hassett, and BlackRock executive Rieder. Trump said, "We have some really excellent names. People have a great liking for them and the concepts they represent. They are very popular individuals. But we will likely adhere to the majority. I should mention that I haven't really delved into that matter yet."
