SBF's Appeal Hearing is scheduled for November 4th, seeking a retrial and alleging judicial bias against the original judge

On November 2nd, as per CoinDesk, the appeal hearing for FTX founder SBF is slated for November 4th. This is two years after he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The hearing on November 4th will allocate 10 minutes of speaking time to each side. One side is the prosecutor's team from the New York Southern District led by former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton, and the other is SBF's new defense team led by senior appellate lawyer Alexandra Shapiro. During the hearing, the presiding judge may pose questions to clarify specific details. This hearing will not rehearse the charges themselves but will center on whether the trial process was conducted appropriately. According to the opening statement submitted by the defense in September 2024, SBF, as the appellant, desires to obtain a new trial presided over by a new judge. His team holds the view that District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who presided over the original trial, was partial towards SBF and made unfair remarks during the trial process, undermining the defense's case.

Eddie Yue: Stablecoin issuers will be rejected for purely speculative or investment purposes; licenses will only be granted to applicants with a strong and legitimate use case

November 3rd — Paul Chan, the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, stated at the Hong Kong Fintech Week 2025 that Hong Kong's financial regulators have a dual mission of both regulating and facilitating market development. While they encourage innovation, they must also ensure the genuine applicability of digital asset regulation, protect investors, and maintain financial stability. Whether it is a digital asset trading platform or a stablecoin, we adhere to the same activities, the same risks, and the same regulatory principles. In particular, our regulatory approach to stablecoins is clear: stablecoins are not for investment or speculation but are designed to promote cost reduction, cross-border transactions, and real economic activities. This is why, under a licensing regime, the approval of stablecoin licenses is only open to applicants with a sustainable and robust business model to support them and a genuine use case.
