Federal Reserve Governor Cook: I will be prepared to support interest rate hikes if inflation fails to slow.

Fed Governor Cook reiterated her stance, stating that if inflation does not slow, she is prepared to raise interest rates, warning that policymakers may not have the luxury of waiting for inflation to return to the 2% target. While Cook supported the Fed’s decision to hold interest rates steady at its July policy meeting, she cautioned that the longer inflation remains above the Fed’s target, the harder it will be to curb. Speaking at an event in Alaska, Cook said: “If I don’t see sustained signs of inflation moving down soon, I am prepared to act. With inflation running above the target for five consecutive years, the risk that inflation becomes entrenched in price and wage-setting behavior is rising, which will lead to more persistent inflation that is harder for us to address.” However, Cook noted that fading tariff impacts, the potential for lower oil prices, and easing pressures related to the AI boom could provide a buffer for inflation, eliminating the need for further policy tightening. She added that her top priority remains bringing inflation back to the Fed’s target level.

SanDisk issues weak earnings guidance, falling as much as 8% in after-hours trading.

SanDisk (SNDK.O) delivered strong Q4 fiscal 2026 results, with both revenue and profit exceeding market consensus. Revenue surged 372% year-over-year and rose 51% quarter-over-quarter. Options expiring in the week of August 7 show that the $1,370 strike price holds the highest open interest in both call and put options; heavy options trading following the earnings release may at least partially explain the stock's weak performance. The next-quarter revenue outlook of $10.3 billion to $10.8 billion also missed expectations, contributing to the stock's post-market decline. SanDisk management stated, "The revenue beat is attributed to our portfolio shift toward high-value customers (with data center business growing 437%) and price increases." According to BIT (bit.com) market data, SanDisk's U.S. stock fell as much as 8% in after-hours trading, and is now down 5.57%.

More than half of Microsoft's AI revenue comes from OpenAI, showing the company still relies heavily on its partner.

Microsoft (MSFT.O)’s latest disclosures reveal that the majority of its artificial intelligence (AI) revenue stems from OpenAI. In a filing submitted last week, Microsoft reported that for the fiscal year ending in June, its sales from OpenAI totaled $24.1 billion. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella previously noted that as of the end of the March quarter, the company’s full-year AI business revenue was projected to reach $37 billion. This disclosure indicates that in the most recent fiscal year, OpenAI contributed more than half of Microsoft’s actual AI sales, likely accounting for around 70%. Per the agreement between the two companies, OpenAI pays Microsoft for computing power, AI model development-related costs, and a portion of revenue sharing.
