Binance issued an update on its security incident, stating initial investigations show the breach may involve a DevOps engineer’s laptop being compromised. Attackers exploited this access to enter service containers and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. No evidence of any wallet private key leaks has been detected so far. The total estimated impact is approximately $6.3 billion; Binance has frozen related assets with blockchain partners, with on-chain frozen assets totaling around $3 billion. The exchange will cover all losses via its SAFU fund and corporate funds, ensuring user funds remain secure. An updated proof of reserves will be released after the fix is completed. As an immediate measure, Binance has temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals to conduct security checks, revoked authorizations for affected addresses, and is collaborating with law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to track and recover funds. A full technical post-mortem will be published once the investigation concludes and facts are verified. Please only access the latest developments through official channels.
