China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) National Vulnerability Database (NVDB) issues a risk advisory on preventing critical PHP remote code execution vulnerabilities.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Cybersecurity Threat and Vulnerability Information Sharing Platform (NVDB) has detected two critical remote code execution vulnerabilities in PHP, posing severe risks. PHP is an open-source server-side scripting language widely used in web development. The two critical flaws allow unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code remotely, leading to server compromise, sensitive data leaks, service disruptions, and other harms. Affected PHP versions include: 8.5 series prior to 8.5.12, 8.4 series prior to 8.4.27, 8.3 series prior to 8.3.36, 8.2 series prior to 8.2.35, and all 8.1 series and earlier versions. The PHP security team has patched the vulnerabilities and released a security advisory. Relevant organizations and users are advised to conduct comprehensive checks immediately, upgrade to the latest secure version promptly, or adopt temporary protective measures such as taking systems offline temporarily, disabling session upload progress functions, network isolation, and network access restrictions. They should also strengthen cybersecurity monitoring and management, promptly update credentials like accounts, passwords, and keys, to mitigate cyber attack risks.

OpenAI has deployed nearly 2,000 parallel agents for scientific research: The system analyzed 8 million brain cells in just 32 minutes, uncovering new clues about neurological diseases.

Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI has partnered with U.S. AI biotech firm PerturbAI and the Scripps Research Institute, deploying 1,946 GPT-Rosalind-based agents to analyze experimental data from around 8 million mouse brain cells in parallel, completing the task in just 32 minutes. The research team estimates that this work would take scientists months to a year to finish manually, including analyzing data and reviewing literature. The data comes from a prior gene-editing experiment, where scientists modified different genes to observe changes in brain cells. The AI split nearly 2,000 sets of gene perturbation results among different agents, which analyzed cellular changes, reviewed relevant papers, and identified overlooked connections. One key finding involves the DCTN1 gene, whose mutations are linked to a rare disease with Parkinson’s-like symptoms. The AI observed that when this gene was disrupted, genes responsible for cholesterol synthesis in brain cells became more active. Drawing on existing research, it proposed an explanation: the issue may not be insufficient cholesterol, but impaired intracellular transport that prevents cholesterol from reaching its required locations. If this hypothesis is validated, restoring normal cholesterol transport could become a new approach to protecting nerve cells. The AI also found that Tsc1 and Tsc2, two genes that typically co-regulate cell growth, have distinct roles in the cerebellum. Disrupting Tsc2 affected dozens of genes involved in neural signal transmission, while disrupting Tsc1 caused almost no changes. This provides more specific clues for studying the genetic disorder tuberous sclerosis complex, though the underlying mechanisms require further experimental validation.

Elon Musk publicly backed the merger of SpaceX and Tesla, prompting shareholders to question the fairness of the merger.

Elon Musk has previously publicly confirmed that SpaceX and Tesla are evaluating the possibility of a merger. A person directly familiar with the negotiations stated that Musk’s voluntary disclosure of the transaction progress and expression of support in front of investors may prompt shareholders to question the fairness of the deal, slow down the negotiation process, and even expose the transaction to extended legal scrutiny. Typically, during the period when independent directors assess a major transaction, relevant parties refrain from publicly stating their preferences, to avoid undermining the process’s fairness or raising external suspicions that the decision has been preordained. Market analysis notes that if SpaceX and Tesla ultimately merge, the deal could be valued at up to $3.5 trillion. Such a massive transaction involves not only corporate governance and shareholder rights, but may also draw reviews from global regulators. Tesla holds significant business operations in China, while SpaceX is involved in U.S. defense projects and the artificial intelligence sector. The two companies have distinct business attributes, regulatory environments, and national security-related factors, which may complicate merger approval.
