U.S. state of Arkansas petitions the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to lift the injunction against its foreign crypto mining restriction law.

According to Bloomberg Law, the state of Arkansas and its Oil and Gas Commission on Tuesday requested the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn a lower court order that blocks enforcement of the state’s law restricting foreign entities from holding interests in digital asset mining operations. The lower court had previously ruled the law was likely invalid due to federal preemption. Joseph Nelson from Arkansas’s Office of the Attorney General pushed back on that finding, noting the law falls within core state police power and targets the same countries the U.S. federal government has designated as national security threats. The legislation, passed in 2024, bans citizens or companies of countries subject to U.S. Department of State arms export controls from holding interests in digital asset mining facilities located in the state.

Qi Junyuan, former head of Doubao's PC version, founded Today AI, which has raised over $200 million in total financing with investors including Tencent, Ant Group, and Sequoia, and has begun training its own AI model.

Beating AI News (Dongcha): Today AI, founded by Junyuan Qi—founder of Teambition and former head of Doubao PC—announced it has raised over $200 million in total financing. Investors include IDG Capital, Tencent, Source Code Capital, Ant Group, Sequoia China, Transsion Holdings, Singulariteam, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Hanyuan Asset. Today AI originally planned to develop software first, then hardware, and finally train its own models. Now, the R&D sequence has been adjusted to advance software and model development in parallel, with an early experimental model version already available. The reason is that while existing large language models (LLMs) have grown increasingly proficient in programming, their ability to communicate naturally with users and understand personal preferences has not improved in tandem. Today AI aims to train models specifically tailored for personal assistants, with hardware development planned in collaboration with partners. However, the product still falls short of the team’s vision for a personal AI assistant. In a prior interview with LatePost, the Today AI team admitted that the system’s ability to proactively understand and adapt to users is only at a “20-30 out of 100” level. A 10-day trial by GeekPark also found that Today AI can complete game mod localization in 15 minutes, but consecutive incorrect installation suggestions left the reporter struggling for an hour. How to prioritize tasks and determine when to take proactive action remains an unresolved challenge for such personal AI agents.
