Former Google CEO Schmidt holds approximately 1% stake in Anthropic, with the upcoming IPO expected to bring massive wealth gains.

According to Bloomberg, sources familiar with the matter said former Google CEO Eric Schmidt holds roughly 1% of Anthropic through early-stage investments, and is poised to be one of the largest individual beneficiaries of the company’s initial public offering (IPO). He invested tens of millions of dollars in Anthropic’s Series A round in 2021, when the startup was valued at $461 million. It remains unclear whether he has sold any shares since then; both Schmidt and Anthropic declined to comment. Last week, investors valued Anthropic at between $1.8 trillion and $2 trillion. Even at the company’s latest valuation of $965 billion, Schmidt’s stake is worth nearly $10 billion. If Anthropic hits a $2 trillion valuation, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates his net worth would rise by roughly a third, approaching $80 billion. Sources previously said Anthropic will kick off its IPO roadshow as early as the week of November 9, with trading expected to begin ahead of U.S. Thanksgiving, and a listing targeted for no later than the end of the year. Other major investors in the firm include Alphabet, Amazon, NVIDIA, and Microsoft.
