Crypto analyst Darkfost noted in a post that the BTC funding rate on Binance has turned negative, currently standing at -0.0073%. A negative funding rate typically signals strong market short demand, with the overall derivatives market sentiment clearly leaning bearish. The last time this occurred was in June this year, when BTC traded around $62,000. It is important to note that Binance’s funding rate formula uses a 0.01% interest rate parameter, so the neutral funding rate is not 0% but 0.01%. The current rate falling below zero means short positions have clearly gained the upper hand. This signal warrants attention, especially against the backdrop of this week’s underperforming macroeconomic data: both U.S. CPI and PPI came in higher than expected, further stoking market expectations of future interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Meanwhile, BTC has seen a notable correction since breaking above $87,000 a few days ago. Historically, when the market forms a highly consistent bearish outlook, prices sometimes move in the opposite direction, which may indicate a trend reversal, though the duration of such reversals varies widely. While this signal has reference value, traders still need to carefully develop entry strategies in combination with key technical levels.
