Metaplanet plans to issue 52 billion Japanese yen in zero-coupon convertible bonds, with part of the funds used to repay credit loans and unlock pledged Bitcoin.

Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich announced in a post that the company will issue zero-coupon yen-denominated convertible bonds totaling 52 billion yen, maturing in 2031, while simultaneously advancing its share repurchase program. Of the proceeds from the bond issuance, up to 28.3 billion yen will be allocated to share buybacks: up to 25.3 billion yen will be used for over-the-counter (OTC) block trades covering up to 96,934,800 shares, or roughly 7.1% of the company’s outstanding issued shares; the remaining amount will be acquired via open market purchases. Separately, the company will use approximately 23.6 billion yen to partially repay its credit line, unlocking the Bitcoin currently held as collateral for the facility. Gerovich explained that Metaplanet’s current share price trades below the value of its Bitcoin holdings, so the repurchase is designed to create shareholder value by leveraging this discount. The convertible bonds’ initial conversion price is set above both the bond’s issuance price and 1.0 times its market net asset value (mNAV). Though the issuance will increase the company’s total debt, Metaplanet intends to replace some secured, interest-bearing loans with unsecured debt that carries no periodic interest payments. This move is expected to lower interest costs, extend debt tenors, and boost financial flexibility for future Bitcoin acquisitions.

Cerebras CEO pushes back against AI doomsday narratives: The industry should not only focus on risks, but also showcase the technology's potential to the public.

AI chip firm Cerebras Co-founder and CEO Andrew Feldman told attendees at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 that discussions about technological risks in the AI industry are currently overly pessimistic, and some industry leaders may not need to make such remarks publicly. He argued that the public is overly fixated on the risk of AI going rogue and potentially destroying humanity, while overlooking AI’s transformative potential in sectors like healthcare—for example, it could drastically reduce cancer deaths in the future. Feldman also stressed that powerful technology inevitably carries a risk of misuse by bad actors, so the industry must advance prudently and embrace reasonable regulation. He added that negative public sentiment surrounding AI data center construction stems partly from the industry’s failure to adequately communicate with local communities over the past few years, particularly in the U.S., where companies should prioritize community engagement. When asked whether gains in AI model efficiency would dampen chip demand, Feldman expressed no concern. He noted that hardware vendors boosting computing efficiency and model developers optimizing models can progress in tandem, ultimately fueling further advancement of AI technology. Cerebras’ clients include OpenAI, Block, Figma, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), and Lovable.

A developer built a 3D *The Little Prince* narrative game in just 16 days using Opus 5.5, allowing players to now step into the planets from the original book.

Beating AI Express: AI creator Sac spent 16 days adapting *The Little Prince* into a browser-based 3D narrative game titled *The Little Prince: Journey of the Stars*. Players can control the Little Prince to visit the king’s palace, traverse the rose garden, meet the fox, and locate the pilot in the desert. Beyond scene displays, the game includes interactive tasks such as watering flowers. According to the creator, Claude Opus 5.5 handled coding and game development; Tripo AI under VAST (Sanqi Wanwu) was used to generate 3D models, Blender for model and scene processing, and Unity to integrate all elements into the final game. Even the promotional video was produced by Opus 5.5 and Blender via a single prompt. The game is now available for free trial, with its official website supporting 8 languages including Chinese, English, and Japanese. However, it still has room for optimization: some players note gameplay is currently centered on scene exploration, with immature jumping mechanics and character animations, while others report performance lags. The web version requires browser WebGPU support, and each chapter needs downloading large resource packs. The creator plans to open-source the entire project and its detailed production process in the future.

US Department of the Treasury fines Bank of America nearly $2 billion over money laundering and sanctions violations.

The US Treasury Department announced yesterday multiple enforcement actions against Bank of America, the second-largest bank in the United States, over failures in its anti-money laundering (AML) framework and violations of sanctions rules. According to the announcement, the total penalties and settlements amount to approximately $19.62 billion: the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) imposed a $1.2 billion fine, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) levied a $750 million civil penalty, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) reached a $11.6 million settlement with the bank. The Treasury noted that Bank of America failed to timely report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions to FinCEN, with over $1 billion tied to national security and high-priority illicit financial risks—including suspected money laundering networks in Asia, fraud, and potential trade-based money laundering. The bank also had flaws in its transaction monitoring system that left it unable to effectively monitor trillions of dollars in transactions, and repeatedly delayed submitting large volumes of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs). Additionally, Bank of America engaged in 475 suspected violations of multiple sanctions programs, including processing correspondent payments through blocked banks and failing to update sanctions lists in a timely manner. The relevant transactions involved sanctions targets linked to Russia, Belarus, Iran, Myanmar, Somalia, drug trafficking, and global terrorism. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that large financial institutions must abide by AML and sanctions rules, otherwise they will expose the entire US financial system to risks of illicit capital flows.

Ray Dalio warns U.S. Treasury bond selloff far from over: Massive debt issuance and weakening buyer demand exacerbate debt pressure.

Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio warned in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday that the US Treasury market is grappling with dual headwinds: a sustained rise in bond supply and weakening investor demand, signaling the bond bear market is likely to persist. He pointed out that as the US government floods the market with new debt, yields could climb further, driving up government financing costs and amplifying the debt burden, thus forming a vicious cycle. Dalio estimated that the US will need to refinance roughly $10 trillion in maturing debt this year, while also issuing around $2.1 trillion in new borrowings. Meanwhile, high-capital expenditure sectors such as AI are also vying for capital, and corporate bond issuance is further intensifying competition for funds. He also cautioned that if traditional overseas buyers like Japan cut back on their US Treasury holdings, the supply-demand imbalance could deepen, and he sees stress in the corporate credit market as an early indicator of tightening liquidity. Dalio noted that unless high interest rates deliver sufficient shocks to the real economy and financial markets to force a rebalancing of capital supply and demand, the debt pressure will remain hard to ease. He has long held a bearish outlook on US Treasuries and tends to advise investors to trim their bond holdings and increase gold positions. The report adds that the benchmark US Treasury index has dropped approximately 2.4% so far this year, putting the market at risk of its first annual decline since 2022.
