Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès revealed in a post that a Ledger hardware wallet he received is suspected to have an implanted spy module. The device originated from Malaysia; its outer packaging’s heat-shrink film was intact, and anomalies were not immediately noticeable upon opening. The implant was hidden in the position of the screen’s original buffer pad. Karpelès further detailed that the module contains LTE communication components, an antenna, eSIM, and a microcontroller connected to Ledger’s SPI bus. It can analyze characters displayed on the device to users and exfiltrate relevant data after the mnemonic phrase is configured. Attackers may subsequently monitor the victim’s wallet address and transfer assets at an opportune moment. He urged users to inspect their devices in accordance with Ledger’s official guidance.

According to monitoring by on-chain analytics firm Lookonchain, a user with address TY24Ya bought a Ledger device from CryptoBillis three weeks ago, deposited 7 million USDT into it, and roughly 10 hours ago, the entire sum was stolen—marking one of the largest individual losses in this incident. To date, whether the devices were tampered with, the specific technical root cause of the theft, and the attacker’s identity remain unconfirmed. The public is advised to exercise vigilance and approach hardware wallets from unvetted sources and third-party distribution channels with caution.

Nasdaq-listed BTQ Technologies announced a strategic partnership with MoonPay Korea to provide post-quantum cryptography (PQC) security solutions for its KRW-supported stablecoin infrastructure. The two parties will jointly develop a quantum migration roadmap and conduct a proof-of-concept (PoC) for BTQ’s Quantum-Secured Stablecoin Network (QSSN) with South Korean banking institutions, exploring quantum-resistant security mechanisms covering stablecoin issuance, distribution, wallets, and settlement.
