SpaceX (SPCX.O) announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio, enabling it to directly compete with traditional U.S. wireless telecom giants across the country. While Starlink Mobile’s existing global 2 GHz mid-band spectrum delivers high bandwidth capacity, the new spectrum will allow its signals to penetrate obstacles. This move accelerates Elon Musk’s ambition to bypass traditional wireless infrastructure and provide cellular network connectivity directly to smartphones from Earth orbit. The transaction involves acquiring 100% of the equity in the nationwide 800 MHz spectrum portfolio held by private equity firm Grain Management, and is still subject to regulatory approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Additionally, the FCC this week approved Starlink Mobile’s second-generation satellite constellation application, authorizing SpaceX to launch 15,000 satellites globally optimized for the 2 GHz band.

According to official announcements, Consensys and UK-based digital and traditional asset market infrastructure group ClearToken have announced a strategic partnership aimed at helping banks migrate tokenized assets and cash to infrastructure supporting 24/7 operation, while meeting wholesale financial markets’ requirements for legal certainty, risk control, and compliance. The two sides will combine blockchain’s technical finality with settlement finality: Consensys provides cryptographic technical safeguards to ensure on-chain transaction records are tamper-proof, while ClearToken focuses on ensuring fund and asset transfers have legal finality and irreversibility. Under the cooperation plan, ClearToken CSD Limited, leveraging its approval from the Bank of England’s Digital Securities Sandbox Phase 2, will support the tokenization of eligible securities held by different banks and their recognition as interchangeable unified financial instruments. Combined with the group’s FCA (Financial Conduct Authority)-authorized payment institution ClearToken Depository Limited, the two parties plan to support settlement of relevant securities and cash via Delivery versus Payment (DvP), with settlement assets including fiat currency, tokenized deposits, and stablecoins, enabling 24/7 uninterrupted operation.
