Unity teams up with Google to launch Spark: A platform enabling multiple AI Agents to collaborate on game development, with direct access to professional assets.

Beating AI News Flash: Unity and Google have jointly unveiled Unity Spark, a new AI-powered game development tool, with a closed beta test planned for later this year. Built on the Unity game engine, Spark allows users to create and edit 3D games directly in web browsers, eliminating the need to install traditional development software. It supports natural language commands while retaining manual editing capabilities. Spark enables multiple users to collaborate on the same game project simultaneously, and multiple AI agents can work in parallel. Users can instruct agents to build scenes, adjust lighting, or modify game content. The tool is also integrated with the Unity Asset Store, which recommends assets created by professional creators based on user requests. For example, if a user asks to add a cape to a character, the AI will source suitable assets from the store. Spark leverages multiple generative AI models and does not rely solely on Google technology. Unity CEO Matt Bromberg emphasized that the team does not want users to generate full games with a single command; instead, it aims to let creators iterate and refine their works repeatedly. Users can use AI to speed up development while still utilizing professional art assets and traditional editing tools. However, Spark has notable limitations at launch: the editor only supports desktop web browsers, finished games can run on desktop and mobile browsers and be published to Google Playground, but projects cannot currently be downloaded, exported to the full Unity editor, or sold. The platform plans to charge users via credits based on AI usage, with specific pricing yet to be announced.
