Beating AI News (Dongcha): Shenzhen-based AI hardware company NOOKLAB has completed multiple rounds of financing, with investors including Sequoia China and Linear Capital, raising a total of several hundred million yuan at a valuation approaching $100 million. The two financing rounds were concentrated earlier this year, when founder Zhao Yue had just departed ByteDance for about three months and the company had not yet launched any products. NOOKLAB’s debut product, Moonphase Flip, is an AI e-ink screen that magnetically attaches to the back of a smartphone. Weighing 54 grams and measuring 4.65 mm thick, it is equipped with six microphones and offers over two days of battery life. According to the official description, after users start recording, the AI can extract schedules, commitments, and to-do items from conversations and display them directly on the back screen. Users can flip the phone to view these entries without opening an app to search for records. The product also plans to integrate calendars and historical conversations to prepare meeting materials in advance, generate meeting summaries, and draft follow-up emails. The product is expected to launch in small batches in December, though independent test data is currently unavailable. Similar products already exist: Flowtica’s Verso also combines recording and e-ink screen functionality, but it weighs 98 grams. Moonphase Flip positions itself as slimmer, lighter, and less prone to notification interruptions. Whether the AI can accurately identify users’ commitments and complete subsequent tasks remains to be verified in practice.

Developers have replicated seven Adobe software titles using Claude, with all projects open-source but still far from mature.

Beating AI Express: ArtCraft founder Brandon Thomas has leveraged Claude Opus 5.5 to open-source seven alternatives to Adobe’s creative software, all built entirely from scratch in Rust. The tools are: 1. PhotoCraft: Photoshop alternative for image editing 2. VectorCraft: Illustrator alternative for vector design 3. FilmCraft: Premiere Pro alternative for video editing 4. LightCraft: Lightroom alternative for photo management and color grading 5. EffectCraft: After Effects alternative for video effects and animation 6. DesignCraft: InDesign alternative for desktop publishing 7. PdfCraft: Acrobat Pro alternative for PDF editing and processing All seven apps are free and open-source, developed for macOS, Windows, Linux, and web browsers. They aim to closely replicate Adobe’s interfaces, tools, and keyboard shortcuts, and support integration with AI agents via MCP, enabling tools like Claude to directly operate the software and modify files. However, the applications remain in early development. While PhotoCraft covers all of Photoshop’s menu commands, Thomas admits its functionality is less than 50% equivalent to Adobe’s tool. Testing shows basic features like cutout and color grading work, but operations such as free transform remain unstable. Many users on Hacker News have also reported missing features and operational issues. Thomas initially claimed he would achieve feature parity with Adobe within a month, later revising that timeline to months for near-complete functionality. He acknowledged the software is far from mature, inviting community contributions for fixes, and plans to offer bug bounties.

Trump says he is "not very keen" on reaching an agreement with Iran; US media outlets report that the US military may be preparing to resume large-scale operations in the coming weeks.

US President Donald Trump said in a local time statement on October 7 that he is "not very keen" on reaching a deal with Iran. Earlier, NBC News reported that Trump and his national security team are discussing the possibility of resuming large-scale military operations against Iran in the coming weeks; Axios added that potential actions could include "massive bombing" of Iran’s energy, infrastructure and nuclear facilities. Speaking at a campaign rally in San Antonio, Texas, Trump noted Iran is willing to offer "anything" to end the conflict, but he currently does not wish to strike a deal. He also said US Special Envoy for Middle East Steve Witkoff is pushing forward related negotiations and "doing a good job". Recent US-Iran talks remain marked by clear divisions. US Vice President JD Vance stated that Iran must drastically reduce its nuclear enrichment capacity to meet Washington’s demands for ending the war. For its part, Iran has criticized US officials for conflicting stances and insisted its right to uranium enrichment is non-negotiable. Meanwhile, Middle East energy markets continue to be impacted by the conflict. Kpler data shows that excluding Iran, crude oil exports via the Gulf, combined with shipments from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have recovered to around 18.5 million barrels per day (bpd) – the pre-conflict level. However, oil prices remain elevated. Kpler analysts believe that even without a new diplomatic agreement, Middle East oil shipments could gradually recover through operational adjustments, though the process will be slower and uneven.

Bitcoin’s decline has not triggered panic selling, with buying support in the $83,000 to $79,000 range strengthening significantly.

Analyst Murphy wrote that when BTC’s price falls, liquidity from market makers naturally tilts toward bids, while traders place orders at lower prices to wait for entry points. Data shows Binance’s spot order book’s 5% depth (total liquidity within a 5% range of the current price) hit $80 million at one point when BTC dropped to around $83,000. Relative to prior periods, this level is higher than during the September 10–16 correction and close to BTC’s sideways consolidation phase at its July bottom. Calculated at $83,000, buy orders within the 5% depth range extend roughly to $79,000, meaning substantial buy support exists between $83,000 and $79,000, which could lower the risk of the price being quickly breached. Meanwhile, the gap between taker buy and sell volumes on Binance rose steadily as the price fell, signaling more aggressive buying and fewer aggressive selling orders. Murphy noted this shows traders are not displaying significant bearish sentiment: not only is there ample passive buy support below, but aggressive buying interest has actually strengthened during the price decline.
