Yuga Labs’ Vice President of Blockchain, Quit, released a statement saying that at 9 a.m. ET today, attackers exploited a vulnerability in Payment Processor V2 to steal 10 Meebits, 50 Otherdeeds, 10 WoW, and 235 Desperate Apewives. The incident was reported to the team more than 12 hours later, and a subsequent investigation revealed that a large number of NFTs faced similar risks. Quit noted that after contacting the LimitBreak team, the latter swiftly suspended the similarly affected Payment Processor V3. However, V2 could not be paused, and V3 on ApeChain was also temporarily un-suspendable. As a result, the team launched a white hat operation, transferring and securing a total of 23,155 NFTs valued at over $5.7 million. The team later discovered the same vulnerability could also be abused to steal WETH, with approximately 660 WETH at risk that could not be recovered in time. All rescued NFTs have now been moved to secure addresses; holders will be able to claim their assets after revoking authorizations for the vulnerable contract.

Binance Co-CEO Richard Teng issued a statement saying that after the Bitget security incident, Binance’s security team has been working closely with Bitget since the incident was detected, assisting in sharing security intelligence, tracking related funds, and supporting asset recovery efforts. Teng noted that in such security incidents, the crypto industry will unite to counter attackers, and the relevant assistance work is still ongoing.

Quit stated that if users’ assets were transferred without authorization, those held at addresses starting with “0x71cf” remain secure. However, affected users still need to revoke the aforementioned contract authorizations. Earlier reports flagged a suspected NFT security flaw at NFT marketplace Magic Eden, where a white hat hacker transferred 3,832 NFTs from hundreds of wallets, valued at approximately $1.5 million. Yuga Labs’ blockchain VP Quit clarified that the transfer was a white hat operation, with all relevant NFTs stored at addresses starting with “0x71cF”. The assets are safe and will be fully returned once the risk is mitigated.
