According to The New York Times, King Charles III of the United Kingdom will meet with leaders of major artificial intelligence companies in Scotland this week, amid growing concerns that the rapid, unbridled development of the technology could trigger a global catastrophe. Per a Buckingham Palace statement, Charles will convene heads of firms including Nvidia, Google, DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic, alongside government officials, to discuss how to develop and deploy AI in ways that benefit society. The gathering will take place at Dumfries House—headquarters of the King Foundation, an educational charity—in Ayrshire, southwest Scotland. It comes as AI insiders and several industry giants issue warnings about these tools and their fast-paced advancement. Some have called for establishing shared guidelines and intentionally slowing development to ensure humanity can keep pace.
