BCA: AI capital expenditure is expected to continue for another three to five years, while giant IPOs will serve as a warning sign for the overheated market.

In its latest macro report, BCA noted that in Q1 2026, IT investment in software, hardware, and data centers contributed 0.8 percentage points to U.S. real GDP growth, marking a new high this century. When compared to the 1990s tech investment cycle, current AI capital expenditure could still persist for another three to five years. The institution added that improved data center revenue and profit margins have laid the foundation for continued expansion among hyperscale cloud providers. Even if the commercialization of frontier large models faces price wars, falling model usage costs may drive more enterprises to adopt AI, further boosting demand for computing power, servers, electricity, and data centers. However, BCA also warned that a key variable to watch may come from equity supply. The report identifies "mega-IPOs" as a critical alarm for overheated markets: when large new listings surge and financing scales expand rapidly, market liquidity will be siphoned off, and valuation expansion is more prone to stalling. Its historical charts show that within two years of major IPOs, the S&P 500 index has averaged a peak-to-trough drawdown of around 24%. BCA’s judgment is that AI capital expenditure will still underpin earnings and growth, but mega-IPOs, financing conditions, and rising yields will determine when this rally shifts from "earnings-driven" to a "liquidity test."

Traditional trust companies are beginning to reject "crypto millionaires", with anti-money laundering (AML) and source-of-wealth checks emerging as the main hurdles.

According to a report by the Financial Times, an increasing number of high-net-worth individuals who have amassed wealth through cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are being rejected by traditional trust firms when seeking to set up offshore trusts for tax and wealth succession arrangements. Trust institutions are mainly concerned about fiduciary liability issues such as difficulty in verifying the source of funds, potential money laundering risks, sharp fluctuations in asset prices, and loss of private keys. The report notes that some trust firms specializing in serving digital asset clients are taking on such businesses through on-chain analysis and enhanced compliance reviews. However, most mainstream fiduciary institutions remain cautious, fearing future legal and reputational liabilities stemming from the source of crypto assets or their sharp depreciation.

Coinbase CEO: U.S. crypto regulation will advance regardless of whether the Clarity Act is passed.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated that the Clarity Act—legislation designed to clarify regulatory jurisdiction over digital assets between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)—has secured support from multiple senators and is slated for a Senate vote on September 15. He added that even if the bill fails to pass, the SEC and CFTC have signaled they will move forward with rulemaking, meaning regulatory clarity "will arrive regardless". On the operational front, Coinbase is pushing ahead with a diversified business shift, expanding its trading offerings to include stocks, commodities, and foreign exchange, while its non-trading revenue streams cover stablecoins and institutional custody services. The company reported Q2 revenue of $1.2 billion, down year-over-year, with a net loss of $359.5 million, marking three consecutive quarters of missing market expectations.
