Besant on the yen: "I am the market maker, hold 'insider information' — short sellers can try to take me on if they dare."

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has challenged traders attempting to short the yen, claiming he now holds "insider information" when making market judgments. "Whenever someone says, 'Oh, the Treasury Secretary is taking a risk here,' I think that’s exactly what I want, because I have asymmetric information," Bessent said. A former hedge fund executive, he recalled several instances of his market interventions, including the joint yen-buying operation with the Japanese government on July 31. The yen rallied sharply at the time, but gave back those gains over subsequent trading sessions, in part because traders noted the US Treasury had limited funds available for foreign exchange purchases. "I’m the house now, so when we intervene in the yen market, I have a pretty good sense of what the Japanese government, the Bank of Japan, and Japanese policymakers will do. And if you want, you can bet against me," Bessent said.

FBI Alert: Three U.S. Agencies Accuse 6 Chinese AI Companies Including DeepSeek of Illegal Model Distillation

Beating AI Insight News Brief: The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released a joint report naming DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, Alibaba, MiniMax, StepFun, and Zhipu AI. The U.S. accuses these entities of mass-calling outputs from Claude, GPT, Gemini, and Grok to train their own models since at least the end of 2024, involving millions of requests and billions of tokens in total. The report also lists specific models: DeepSeek is accused of using multiple Claude, GPT, Gemini, and Grok models to generate training data for its R1 and V3; Moonshot AI is accused of using Claude Fable 5 data to train its Kimi K3 and GPT-4o data to train Kimi K2. The U.S. alleges these companies also bypassed regional restrictions via numerous accounts, third-party API aggregators, and unregulated "middlemen", and used prompts to try to extract the models' hidden reasoning processes. The report terms such behavior "malicious distillation". Distillation is a common model training method, but the U.S. targeted unauthorized large-scale calls and access restriction circumvention in this case.

Trump Media has launched seven Truth Social-themed ETFs, with combined assets totaling approximately $150 million.

Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT.US) has teamed up with New Jersey-based investment firm Yorkville America to officially launch seven exchange-traded funds (ETFs) under the "Truth Social" brand, which are listed on the New York Stock Exchange as of December 30, 2025. The seven ETFs have a combined assets under management (AUM) of approximately $150 million. Five of the funds are newly created, each focusing on defense security, space and AI, leading U.S. brands, energy security, and "red state" real estate trusts respectively, with stock codes TSSD, TSFN, TSIC, TSES, and TSRS in sequence. The other two were renamed from established conservative ETFs, namely the America First ETF (ticker: MAGA) and the God Bless America ETF (ticker: YALL). In terms of investment strategy, the funds prioritize allocating to companies that benefit core U.S. economic sectors, while deliberately avoiding firms perceived as overly promoting social activism. Their holdings include leading enterprises such as Lockheed Martin, ExxonMobil, The Home Depot, and Walmart. Trump Media itself does not participate in the funds' management or stock selection; it only licenses the brand to Yorkville America and generates revenue through brand licensing fees. Each of the five new funds currently has an AUM of less than $10 million, and their market popularity remains to be seen.

Meta launches Muse: turning OpenClaw into a product directly usable by the general public.

Beating AI News Brief: Meta launches personal agent Muse. Its key differentiators from OpenClaw and Hermes are that it requires no self-deployment and eliminates the hassle of managing models, servers or skills. Meta provides a standalone cloud environment for Muse, accessible via its app, web interface or WhatsApp. Compared to Grok Bot, Muse does not prioritize managing multiple agents at once, positioning itself as a long-term personal assistant instead. It is most similar to Instinct, but Muse integrates directly with Meta’s own accounts, apps and upcoming AI glasses. Another core focus of Muse is security: sensitive data such as passwords and bank card details are not directly shared with the agent, while payments and high-risk operations require separate confirmation.

22-year-old mastermind Malone Lam pleads guilty in $245 million crypto fraud case

22-year-old Singaporean national Malone Lam, alias "Greavys", pleaded guilty on September 8 to a federal charge of conspiracy to commit racketeering at Washington D.C. federal court, with the case involving $245 million. Prosecutors allege he organized a cross-border "social engineering" network that stole victims' crypto assets via tactics including impersonating customer support scams, database intrusions, and hardware wallet theft. The U.S. Department of Justice stated the criminal group has operated since at least October 2023, using social engineering tactics and occasional burglaries to obtain victims' personal information before transferring their cryptocurrencies. Stolen funds were used to buy luxury cars, high-end watches, private jet rentals, and nightclub spending, with a single night at a nightclub costing up to $500,000. Co-defendant Evan Tangeman was sentenced to 70 months in prison in April this year for money laundering. Lam faces a maximum of 20 years in prison, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for December 8.
