South Korea Plans to Sanction Unregistered Exchanges such as BitMEX, KuCoin

On March 22nd, the South Korean financial authorities are formulating plans to impose sanctions on cryptocurrency exchanges like BitMEX, KuCoin, CoinW, Bitunix, and KCEX. These exchanges have not registered with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) but are offering Korean-language website services. The FIU declared that the aforementioned exchanges have failed to register as Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) as mandated, and thus are regarded as operating illegally. Relevant officials stated that they are currently engaged in discussions with the Korea Communications Commission with the intention of considering blocking access to these unregistered overseas exchanges and are anticipated to introduce specific measures within the year.
