Bitcoin Volmex Implied Volatility Index (BVIV) perpetual contracts officially launched on Hyperliquid on Monday, offering on-chain exchange users a way to bet on the magnitude of Bitcoin’s price fluctuations rather than its price direction. Widely dubbed the “Bitcoin VIX,” the BVIV index tracks the real-time implied or expected volatility of the cryptocurrency over the next 30 days. It is similar to the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) VIX index, which measures the 30-day implied volatility of the S&P 500 index. The newly launched perpetual contracts allow traders to go long or short on the volatility index directly, eliminating the need to express volatility views indirectly via options—thus avoiding high capital requirements and the need for specialized derivatives trading expertise.
