According to a report from The Times of Israel, an Arab official and another source disclosed that ahead of Tuesday’s meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, mediators believed they were close to reaching a breakthrough deal likely to revive the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the U.S. and Iran last month. However, the mediators are still awaiting the final decision after Trump’s meeting with the Israeli leader. Pakistan, Egypt, and Qatar announced late Monday that they are discussing a proposal aimed at clarifying differences over operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran insists the MOU grants it certain control over the strait, while the U.S. holds a different view. The mediators’ plan is designed to bridge these gaps, enabling the U.S. and Iran to hold talks under the MOU, which has a 60-day deadline expiring next month. Iran and Oman have already approved the mediators’ proposal, and it is now pending Trump’s approval. The two sources stated that the White House has not yet made a decision and will not issue a final call until after Trump meets with Netanyahu.

TD Securities strategists stated in a report that if the Federal Reserve holds interest rates steady this Wednesday, the U.S. dollar could experience reflexive weakness. While the Fed is widely projected to keep rates unchanged, officials Harker and Logan are expected to dissent in support of a rate hike. Even so, any near-term softness in the dollar is likely limited, as expectations for Fed rate hikes through the remainder of 2026 remain intact. TD Securities anticipates that Fed official Waller will provide little forward guidance, instead reaffirming his commitment to price stability. The firm added that Waller may highlight the recent decline in inflation data while signaling that inflation remains elevated.
