Crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett wrote that in response to questions over why Binance maintained user funds were secure after a roughly $6 billion hack, a Binance spokesperson said customer funds were unaffected, and the stolen assets originated from one of the exchange’s own hot wallets. Binance noted that most customer funds are stored in cold wallets, which are only transferred to hot wallets when users initiate withdrawals. The spokesperson added that Binance holds the majority of its operational earnings in crypto assets, retaining a large share and reinvesting it into business operations and security infrastructure, citing belief in the long-term value of crypto and the industry. He stated: “This is exactly why we were able to cover such a large loss immediately with our own funds.”

According to a notice from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia were sentenced to 180 months (15 years) and 186 months (15 and a half years) in prison respectively on October 29 for their involvement in an armed kidnapping and cryptocurrency robbery case. Per court documents, the two traveled from Texas to Minnesota on September 19, 2025, where they kidnapped a victim’s family at gunpoint, bound them with zip ties, held them at gunpoint for over nine hours, and demanded the victim surrender assets from their crypto accounts. When the transferred amount fell short of their expectation, the pair forced the victim to drive one of them to a separate cabin to retrieve additional crypto storage devices and transfer funds, ultimately stealing over $8 million in crypto assets. After the victim’s son dialed 911, the two fled the scene and were later arrested near Houston. The pair had previously pleaded guilty on June 18, and the case was jointly investigated by the FBI and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
