Blockstream refuses to pay ransom for the 4,000 Bitcoin stolen from its Liquid Network protocol.

Blockstream tweeted that it will not pay a ransom to retrieve the stolen Bitcoin from the Liquid Network, stating that unauthorized acquisition of assets and refusal to return them constitutes theft, not responsible disclosure or white-hat behavior. Blockstream added that if the stolen funds are not returned, it will cooperate with law enforcement agencies, exchanges, service providers, and forensics experts to track, recover the assets, and identify responsible parties through all legal means, emphasizing that Bitcoin transactions are transparent and relevant evidence will not disappear. Blockstream is the primary developer and technology provider of the Liquid Network. On September 7, the Liquid Network reported that approximately 4,000 BTC had been withdrawn by a white-hat hacker, prompting the sidechain to suspend operations.

Sakana upgrades its "Model Battle Team": Ultra v2 prioritizes performance, Max focuses on cost reduction.

Beating AI Express (Dongcha) – Japanese AI firm Sakana AI has launched Fugu Max and Fugu Ultra v2. Essentially "model schedulers", these tools first analyze tasks, assign appropriate models to collaborate, cross-validate outputs, and synthesize final answers. The original Fugu used this approach to combine models including GPT, Claude, and Gemini, delivering performance close to or even outperforming the then stronger Fable 5 in some areas. This time, Sakana split its Fugu line into two: Fugu Max prioritizes cost efficiency, adding more open-weight and specialized models to its pool while opting for sufficient yet cheaper models. The company claims that at near-top-tier performance, Fugu Max costs roughly 1/2 to 1/6 of comparable leading models. Fugu Ultra v2, by contrast, is built for maximum performance: it ranks first or tied for first in 5 out of 8 benchmarks, and its agent pool excludes Fable 5, Fable 5.1, and GPT-6 Astra. That said, switching between multiple models may reduce context cache reuse and generate extra orchestration tokens. Sakana has not disclosed Fugu Max’s cache hit rate or total token cost per task. The original Fugu also faced user complaints about slow speeds and fast credit consumption.
