Analysis: Bitcoin 30-Day Option Delta Skew Skyrockets, Indicating Market is in Extreme Fear

2025.08.20 09:32:17

On August 20th, according to Deribit data, the Bitcoin 30-day option Delta skew (put-call) skyrocketed to 12%, attaining its highest level in more than four months. In a neutral situation, this indicator typically fluctuates between -6% and +6%, which reflects the balanced pricing of call (buy) and put (sell) options. When the level is above 10%, it indicates extreme market fear, but such situations seldom last. Previously, this indicator soared to 13% on April 7th, when Bitcoin fell below $74,500 for the first time in five months. Subsequently, risk-taking investors reaped a 40% return in the following month, with Bitcoin rising to $104,150 on May 8th. Cointelegraph's analysis suggests that there is no evidence indicating the end of Bitcoin's bull market. Traders' fear often exceeds rational expectations. In fact, this cryptocurrency may even benefit from potential outflows from the stock market, suggesting that the current turmoil will not counteract the market's long-term bullish trend.

Final rule allowing alternative investments including crypto assets to be included in U.S. 401(k) retirement plans has been submitted to the White House for review.

According to Bloomberg Law, a final rule from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) aimed at making it easier for retirement plans to include alternative assets such as private equity, real estate, and cryptocurrencies was sent to the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) for review on Thursday. The submission indicates the rule is nearing completion and public release, though it remains under review. The DOL published the relevant proposal on March 30. Under that earlier proposal, fiduciaries would receive legal safe harbor protection when including private assets as investment options in 401(k) plans if they meet six factor requirements: investment performance, fees, liquidity, valuation, performance benchmarks, and complexity.

According to CNN, former US President Donald Trump’s first television interview since the Republican Party’s midterm election defeat is scheduled to be recorded on Friday, with “60 Minutes” reporter Ross Douthat as the interviewer. The interview will air on Sunday evening, marking Trump’s first in-depth sit-down since the Republicans suffered a sweeping election loss on Tuesday. A CBS News source confirmed the arrangement but noted the interview has not yet been formally conducted. The White House’s Friday-released schedule shows Trump will take part in a pre-recorded interview at 10:30 a.m. ET. Trump closely follows “60 Minutes”: he occasionally posts criticism of the program on Truth Social and is well aware of its strong viewership. Last Sunday’s episode drew an average of 10 million viewers, a number partly driven by the preceding NFL game.
