Chinese police in Zhanjiang have busted a virtual currency "running points" money laundering gang, with 16 people taken into criminal detention.

Police authorities at the Zhanjiang and Leizhou levels in Guangdong, China recently launched a centralized crackdown operation, successfully dismantling a "money mule" money laundering gang that used virtual currency transactions to transfer proceeds from telecom and online fraud. Sixteen members have been lawfully placed in criminal detention. Led by a couple surnamed He and Zhang, the gang has been laundering and transferring fraud proceeds via virtual currency transactions since the end of 2025, generating illegal profits by earning transaction spreads, and amassing a large number of personal bank cards, WeChat Pay, Alipay, and other payment accounts to build its money laundering chain. In the early morning of July 24, police carried out a cross-regional precise crackdown, dismantling the entire criminal chain. Zhanjiang police issued a solemn reminder that "money mule" money laundering is a key accomplice to telecom and online fraud. Depending on the circumstances, those involved may face charges including the crime of assisting information network criminal activities and the crime of concealing or disguising proceeds of crime. The public is urged not to rent, lend, or sell personal bank cards and various payment accounts for small commissions, resolutely refrain from participating in illegal activities such as virtual currency fund transfer and payment agency money laundering, consciously protect personal credit records and property safety, and stay away from all fraud-related illegal and criminal activities.

CZ responds to the issue of Giggle Academy dumping donated tokens leading to unstable coin prices, stating that donations should be pure and not involve gaming interactions.

In response to community claims that Giggle Academy’s one-off sell-off of donated tokens caused price volatility and panic in the crypto space, CZ responded that Giggle Academy, an app focused on free children’s education, is not a crypto-native team and lacks expertise in token management. As such, it sells most of its donated tokens monthly to convert funds for operations, with the initiative already benefiting over a million children worldwide. CZ advised crypto projects to manage their own tokenomics and supply, and avoid donating large amounts of tokens that could trigger price swings. “Donations should be purely to support educational missions. We recommend recurring small monthly donations instead of one-off large contributions, which come with expectations of gratitude or price support—otherwise, it’s just ‘farming’ for project engagement.”

Leading asset management firm Blue Owl Capital saw its credit business slow, with its Q2 fund-raising hitting a three-year low.

Blue Owl Capital raised roughly $7.6 billion in total fundraising for Q2 2026, a sharp decline from the $12.1 billion it secured in the year-ago period. Its flagship private credit business only pulled in around $1.8 billion—about half of the prior quarter’s haul and the lowest single-quarter level since 2023. The drop was driven primarily by turmoil in the private credit market and redemption waves from high-net-worth individual investors, particularly for its non-traded BDC products. By contrast, real estate and real asset strategies (including those tied to AI data centers) performed strongly, accounting for the bulk of new fundraising. The firm’s assets under management (AUM) still expanded to approximately $319 billion, with profit metrics meeting or slightly outperforming expectations. Blue Owl Capital Inc. is a leading New York-headquartered alternative asset management firm focused on private market capital solutions. As of the end of June 2026, its AUM stood at roughly $319 billion.
